OK,

I like the [H]ardOCP and have been reading since it was "Hard Over clockers Paradise" (ie.. long time).

I personally like how reviews are done now (emphasis on real life gaming performance not on synthetic benchmarks) and find the forums overall a good place to get new ideas and recommendations (mainly case modding etc..).

I am not too fond with the [H]ard on how some brands get a little more "preferential treatment" when it comes to reviews, but that may just be my own bias, not yours.

I also find that at times some of the staff re-post news that other staff members (and even themselves sometimes) posted the day before (and even then the news was out on other sites a few days prior to that) and then they either mis-quote or miss the point (ie... they did not read it themselves.. just posted a cut/paste synopsis)

Overall, I like the [H]ardOCP and it is one of my first stops in my daily "internet" reading regime.

D.

Simply put, back when MaximumPC rocked (And was called Boot), I stumbled in to [H]. There was some controversy about video card reviews going on, and Y'all were the only ones to calmly state what you believed in, and let the cards lie. I have pretty much stopped going to other sites, and ignore the comments from my fellow geeks (Sheep/follower).
@!#&% them, Much respect!

A friend of mine referred [H] to me February 26th. I've been a regular reader ever since.

I learned a lot about computing and how to make game systems, hardware properties and usage, and lots more. I especially liked the complete system reviews that you guys used to do.

A day can't pass by without reading [H]. More power!

I love the [H] because:
1. Awesome power supply reviews.

2. Best forums and forum members ever.

I amso have a somewhat strong dislike of a certain part of [H] - the vid card reviews. I simply don't like the "highest playable settings" comparison thing. A. who determines whether the settings are "playable"? I really don't like anything under 45fps... 60+ is even better. For somebody that can physically see the difference in framerate between 90 and 100fps while playing... lows of 20-30fps at "highest playable settings" doesn't impress me at all. I cannot stand trying to play games at that low of framerates.

In all seriousness, I love [H]ard|OCP because you guys dont BS when you review and...when I needed a fix while in Iraq, you never disappointed. You guys support
the troops all the way.

You guys suck because HardOCP sounds like a strange mixture between a professional wrestler and a porn star from the 80s

Ok, I'll brown nose a bit, and then I'll tell you the not so happy bits.

I've been coming to the [H] for years now, since late in my freshman year of college. "Even we don't remember what the OCP stands for". You guys have always told it like it is. You're not beholden to advertisers or, honestly, your readers. If something sucks, or someone's being a dick in the forums, you deal with it. If something rocks, it gets a gold star until something better comes along. As it should be.

But it really bugs the crap out of me that you guys took the auto forum and stuck it in the subscription section in the forums. I used to love going in there to bash the jackass Mustang drivers, especially one in particular whose username escapes me right now. But at the same time I understand, servers and bandwidth aren't free. Maybe one day my cheap ass will pony up the dough.

Until then though, I will continue to laugh at the idiots who after however many reviews can't figure out the best playable settings reviews. Man I love the controversy those things cause.

By the way, whatever the hell DID OCP stand for? Overclocked Performance? Play on ye olde 300A or something?

Love -
  • Real world reviews.
  • Calling out companies for misleading marketing.
  • Flat out saying a product isn't worth buying because it's a flop, there's no reason to sugar coat this sort of thing.
  • This may be something most people take for granted, but the forum works well the majority of the time. I hate forums that suffer horrendous slowdown or are full of bugs.
  • Forum community is amazing.
  • There's always some interesting news to check out on the front page.

Hate -
  • Reviews that compare OC'd versions of the same card, it's a waste of time to compare cards that everyone knows will be within a few FPS of each other in every game.
  • Not enough Apples to Apples benchmarks.
  • Not enough reviews of cooling products.
  • Not enough motherboard reviews recently (non-Asus boards especially).

Things I have enjoyed about [H]:

Relatively unbiased reviews. Rants. Willingness to take on people that spend too much of their time BSing in the journalism and computing industry. Friendly and helpful forum members. Frequent updates to the main page.

Things I don't like as much about [H]:

The game reviews could test more mid-range cards rather than being a high-end slugfest (my poor poor piggy bank is empty). Some editorials are a bit overboard. Perhaps focus on noise a little more in the reviews (no one likes noisy computers...).

Been doing a great job for the 5 years I've been visiting this site. Keep improving!

I love [H] because of fair, honest, real world testing that are done here.

I also like how components are being given away to readers, knowing my chances to win are small, but at least someone will benefit from it.

I would really really love [H] if I win this :D

My feelings about [Hard]OCP are more positive than negative. I've been working nights at my college's IT helpdesk for 4.5 years now, and sometimes I can get pretty bored. Well that boredom is always cured by [H]'s reviews, benchmarks, and daily news of the technology and gaming word. I enjoy reading all the witty and creative comments and it keeps me coming back for more. The only negative I have to say is the search feature is a little uneasy and doesn't always find what I'm looking for (even though I know its there!!!)

I love [H], because no matter how long I am out of the loop, I can rely on you to bring me back up to speed!

I love the [H] because:
1. Because the reviews are awesome!

2. And the news is no nonsense!

The reason I love you guys is because you're like a friend who has all the toys, and lets me know which ones I should get and the ones to steer clear of.

i like hard because of the amount of members here and it has better search engine than anandtech.

Plus i sell all my hardware back here and buy from here also.

HardOCP has been my home page for several years now. In fact moved here from Anandtech when stuff just seemed more interesting over here. Keep up the good work.

I love that the reviews are generally solid, and don't rely on canned benchmark crap. It's great to see actual playable resolutions and descriptions of what your money will get you for a video card, processor, etc.

I hate and morn the loss of the Enthusiast section and that you had to stop reviewing fullblown PCs. It was great to have things like that for friends/family that I don't feel like building a system for. I also hate that I never have enough money for all of the Hard deals that I want, hah.

What do I love about [H]ardOCP?

- The realistic stance of the reviews, as opposed to the largely synthetic and overly generous weight given to slight numerical differences in benchmark scores at some other sites in their overall recommendations. Also the down to earth buying guides that come around every now and again are very helpful to Joe wannabe system builder as well as those more in the loop.

- The relevent and sometimes not so relevant but still interesting news articles. E.g., Iran's new AMD supercomputer. AMD = Anti-American, LOL. But if you send me an AMD 6400+ Black Edition, I might just change my stance...

- The Forums! God knows how much these forums have helped me save tons of money, headache and heartache, as well as helping me put together a great system and helping me find the perfect display for my needs. I especially love the Hot Deals forum and do my best to give back to the community by posting the good deals that I find. I also love how we have representatives from various manufacturers and resellers (e.g. NewEgg) on the forums that actually interact with the community. Its very refreshing!

What do I hate about [H]ardOCP?
Well, I am having a hard time trying to find anything to hate about [H], but if there's one thing it would be the obscene amounts of forum downtime we had earlier this year. Seems to be behind us now though, so great job making this part of the post easy for me. :D

<3 [H]ardOCP and [H]ardForum!!!

I come to [H] everyday and everyday I learn something, I got a questions, answers are plentiful and members/staff are always willing to lend a hand with whatever. Its a great place with a very wide variety of interests and member base that some how (for the most part) get along and works (thumbs up for all the staff keeping up with everything).
All in all I don't think theres a better place to pretty much talk about and re-search anything you can think of and get answers, have fun and just have a great environment to kick back and chill. the place aint perfect, but I dont think it would be any fun if it was

Oh yeah, the tech articles are great too :D

I love [H] for the [H]onesty. You guys tell it like it is, and that's why my browser always has your site open.

I [H]ate it when the flash ads on the front page peg my CPU to 100. But hey, you can fix that by giving me the 6400+ :p

Cheers and [H]appy [H]olidays.

jh

Reliable rigorous reviews of relevant hardware by people that know what they're doing. Also the color scheme is easy on the eyes.

Come for the reviews, stay for the forums. :D

I really like how [H] "looks" at the enthusiast market. Instead of focusing on benchmark (whether synthetic or in game), [H] also covers IQ, power consumption, price/preformance ratios. However the types on configurations tested are kind of limited, I'd like to see different CPU/GPU/etc configurations. Also, maybe some hard drive reviews

HardOCP has an easy to use layout and doesn't have a lot of stupid graphics to get in the way of any facts they may find.

The forums have a ton of members, then majority of them very helpful.

I like HardForum, because there are lots of members, and quite a few are knowledgable which helps with some of the stuff I got problems with. And the video game section is a nice place to talk about video games, but as with everywhere else, it has extreme fanboys in it.... But that is rather unavoidable.

The reasons why I love HardOCP:

1) You do not pull any punches with your reviews. When I am looking for new hardware I read many reviews but I trust your reviews the most.

2) The writing styles of the staff. I don't care how informative a review is, if the review is boring to read then I probably will just skip to the end and read the score.

3) You care about your readers. When my son was born, I sent in a photo showing that another geek came into the world. I was showing off as a proud father. HardOCP took it upon themselves to show my new pride and joy to the rest of the world. Seeing my goofy grin and my newborn son on the front page made the site that much more personal for me.

[H] is my home page because:

(1) I fold for Team 33 and visit the Distributed Computing Forum as my first Internet stop of each day. I picked the [H]orde because of the website.

(2) I love [H]ard|OCP for news and links. I especially value the reviews.

My family and I have been inspired by [H] because they learned us country folk about the squirrel-unicorn hybrids that live inside computers and make them go fast, and because we have large moderators that can be been seen in the wild wearing women's clothing (ahem... steve... ahem bra...)

I love [H]ard|Forum, because it's one of the best computer hardware community I've been with.

I love the [H] because there is finally someone out there in the computing industry that cares about its consumers and wants to provide them with the BEST information available. I always feel that when I read the [H] I find all the information that I need so that I don't have to read anything else. Video cards, processors, memory, computer cases you name it the [H] writes about it and does it very well. I especially enjoy the side-by-side comparisons of different video cards, processors and the like so that I can make my own decision regarding what I should spend my hard-earned money on. I also find that even those reviews that expose deficiencies in stuff provide the consumer information that they CANNOT find anywhere else. The best reason to read the [H] is that I enjoy the forums where the articles are discussed by computer users who are experienced with the merchandise and not just some people that don't know anything about computers but wish they did.

Lets see, I like [H] because you guys have very informative reviews on a wide range of products. Not only that, the community here in the forums are great.

I like [H]ard|OCP for all tech related news and reviews and I like [H]ard|Forum for the [H]ot|DEALS section

My Top Ten List of why I Love [H}ard|Forum.

1) It's in the name - hardcore and for the few.
2) It's better than hearing MySpace and FaceBook.
3) Anytime there's a problem we get "hard" to fix our computer problems.
4) It's not only for computers but about personal life and the daily grind.
5) The best deals in town are right here and right now without leaving my warm chair.
6) The For Sale forums are great for killer deals and helping out other members.
7) It's a place where men can be men.
8) Like caffeine [H}ard|Forum is the first thing in the morning I look at.
9) It's a place to show off your killer rig and be the envy of complete strangers.
10) I don't have a 10th except thanks for the contest!

The Pros:

[H] is unbiased and truthful.
[H] actually provides real world examples instead of synthetic crap.
[H] doesn't waste my time with a bajillion useless graphs of the exact same system.
[H] doesn't waste my time comparing an E6750 against an AMD Athlon XP 3200.

The Cons:

[H]'s ad system is highly intrusive and painful on the eyes.
[H] doesn't go in depth enough on many technical points.
[H] doesn't bribe me with gourmet coffee. (Okay, I guess that's not a legitimate con.)
[H] doesn't do a good job of linking relevant reviews to each other. e.g., An E6750 review should link to relevant heatsink and motherboard reviews, other than just the parts used.
[H] still isn't reviewing boobyprize^Wenterprise systems. Yeah, I know, E2900 12x1.8 lists at $490K effective. But Sun and IBM have generous loaner programs. Trust me. I abuse them regularly. ;)

I love the [H] so much because no matter how much I don't need this hardware, I'm going to enter just for the sake of being apart of this epic giveaway.
