wow. I was agreeing with you and you flamed me for it. okay, moving on now. note to self, don't have _anyone's_ back on the [H].

Sorry for the mix up then. Hey I read 3dmark07 is going to be DX10 only. Any word on that?

Make sense for Dx9 use 3Dmark'06
For Vista DX10 use 3Dmark'07.

But if 3Dmark'07 supports physics like physX+HavokFX then Dx9 XP with Physics is out off the Picture. Unless they do Physx apart with PhysXMark'07 or something.

i believe they should include physics acceleration in a DX10 only 3DMk2007.

just saw on the Ageia developers list that linux hardware support should be hitting the mainstream (anyone can download the drivers) before the end of June.

I also saw (elsewhere on the Intertubes) that apparently someone out there has taken it upon themselves to write a wrapper to run Havok on top of the PhysX API essentially allow Havok-based physics to be rendered via the PhysX API. the little I've seen of this hasn't progressed much further than a few primitive API calls (nothing monumental or demoable yet), but at least the idea is floating out there.

how about 3x8800gtx, 1 for physx wld own.

your probably right!!!:D but then why would ageia create a PhysX card if they could just develop and patent a way to use a seperate GPU for PhysX? Unless they just want total domination in the PhysX world?

because if a $150 physX card does as good of a job accelerating physics as a $500 video card, I'm gonna buy the physX!

Because they're a semiconductor company, and their business is selling hardware.

right... gotchya. i want aware they were a semiconductor company... what else do they make?

what exactly is your point? they are a silicon design company. it doesnt matter if they make one product or 100, they're a hardware company.

yeah but what do they contribute to? who else buys their merch?

well, technically it's comapnies like ASUS, BFG, and ELSA that buy their product. Those big companies are the integrators that actually buy the ICs and then we buy an assembled product from ASUS, BFG, or ELSA -- not from AGEIA directly.

AGEIA is a hardware company. The SDK and API are merely tools intended to aid the adoption of that hardware. The same is true of nVidia and ATi with their programmable GPU APIs and Apple by including MacOS.

oh ok. that makes sense now.:D

Why exactly are you going on about them being a "hardware company"?

You’re also side-stepping the fact that at the moment more console games use the PhysX engine than PC games. Pretty sure they aren’t into consoles to sell PPU cards
