What kind of PPD can a P3 333 with 196 of SD 133 Ram kick out?

I'm thinkin 1-2k if overclocked.
Maybe 2.5k on water!

Run on a Quantum Fireball 20 gig IDE of course.

So, anything else I should check into, or does this PPD seem about right?
 
Should I switch to my Dual Thunderbird 1.0ghz's then?
That setup only has 128 of RD Ram though... gets super hot, and shuts down the machine. But I can prop a fan up against it.

I'm thinkin 3k max with that setup cause of the heat.

P3-333 = ~1-2 ppd, not in thousands. Not worth powering it on.

Yeah, just bored at work, not many people picking up on the sarcasm on the Intel board, figured I would mess around here :)

On a side note: F@H is killing my P4 machine! HSF is either not seated properly, or the Sunbeam PS I got with my new case messed it up... cause it blew within 24 hours. Which means an upgrade is extremely close for me.
 
Okay..... I don't really think that your going to see that kind of production out of either of those boxen.... As a reference, I'm seeing around 120~175ppd out of my P4 2g boxen with 512m ram.....so unless you have some super special magic dust to sprinkle on your Tbird, I doubt you'll see any better....

But who knows? Maybe try a phase change/dry ice cooler on your 333 and see what happens:D

Heh, you know what, I really should try some ghetto cooling on my P3. Max out the Graphical client, and see how long it will last :)

Ignoring units with deadlines of course. It does have a TNT Voodoo 2, though. Runs Unreal like a CHAMP!
Maybe I can use the left over tinfoil from all the tamales you eat to create a super ducting system! That + some empty beer can heat synchs!

That's it..... empty beer can, chunk o' tinfoil and some liquid nitrogen.....maybe throw in a box fan and I think we may just have the solution......Super mega 333 cooler. I'm thinkin' we could probably clock that som' bitch up to maybe like 666 (evil grin:p) and crack out around 10ppd.

Of course, I don't have any liquid nitrogen.... and my wife recycles all the tin foil from my tamales....but maybe I can stash a few pieces here and there....

 
Well, the sky is the limit on just how far you can push that P3. You just need a little bit of extra consideration on the cooling. Nothing fancy though, You can get pretty far on just air:

For those that did not get the sarcasm of the original post, here's a bit of help. First of all, there is no P3 333. The slowest P3 was 450 and so this would have to be a PII. A PII 333 runs a 5x multiplier as it runs on a 66mhz bus. To be able to get any use out of the PC133 RAM you would need to get the FSB up to 133 bringing the PII up to 666. While that is evil, it's not impossible but very unlikely. Then again, an old BX chipset board might have a chance if you have the best PII 333 ever made.

Then, in his next post he mentions dual T-Birds with RDRAM. While the dual T-Birds are easily done it's going to be difficult to use RDRAM with them as there was never a released board for AMD that used RDRAM. That was an Intel only screwup.

Actually, you'd probably get a bit more than 10PPD believe it or not. If they still had the timeless tinkers, you would be able to get at least 30PPD out of a PII overclocked to 666. If it managed to get Amber core work units, you might be able to get similar PPD. On gromacs it would suck ass and would probably do around 15PPD.

How do I know any of this? I used to run a dual PII 266 system as my everyday system at one point. I was able to grab up to 10 timeless tinkers for each CPU and let it crunch on them as I had no net access at my apartment at the time. My main machine was an XP-m@2.5Ghz but it went through work units way too fast so it stayed at my friend's house so it could work 24/7 on folding. I think that's what you call dedication to folding. I left the main rig at a friend's house for net access instead of having it at my place to actually use it. Trust me, I would have been able to do a hell of a lot more with my main rig that than dually PII system. Amazingly enough, it ran WinXP rather well even with only 256 meg of RAM. Yay for SMP. :cool:

In fact I still have a P2 366 E-machines with an ISA slot... and it just so happens to come with a Quantum Fireball :) Runs XP like a dream: Has either 128 or 196 megs, can't remember. Haven't booted it in ages though. Think it had 4mb of integrated Rage goodness!

I believe you mean a Celeron 366. From what I remember, the PIIs were 233, 266, 300, 333, 350, 400 and 450. The first four ran a 66mhz bus whereas the last three ran a 100mhz bus.

As for the Quantum Fireball drives, I had an old 6.4 gig which I got for free brand new and lasted a number of years with no trouble. I actually just put a 20 gig version in my mom's system a few weeks ago. I believe the 20 gig WD drive was going bad. Besides, I was too lazy to backup everything from the drive so I just tossed another hard drive in it. Let's just say that my mom's computer doesn't need much storage. The XP installation takes up more room than anything else I believe.

Also, it's not that difficult to remember all that crap about computers when you were working on them and researching them practically every day. I have all kinds of useless knowledge stored. Too bad I can never remember the actual useful knowledge. :(

 
I still have my old 440BX board... It's gone from a P2 266, to a P2 400, to a Celeron 533, now a P3 1GHz using a slot1 adapter. The thing just won't die! Makes a good file server. :)

Yeah, add me in the 440BX lovers bandwagon. I also loved a 440HX system with 2x Pentium MMX 166 (Asus motherboard with a riser board for the sockets) before the 440BX.

I was around when Intel first released the Triton chipset. Remember the Zappa motherboard with a P75 ?
