Was just wondering what ppd would a stock e2180 bring. Dad wants to finally replace two really old Cryix 333mhz (remember them?) and I got the job of building up the pcs. I was looking at 2x e2180's and to ensure that they are stable i was going to run f@h smp clients on them for a week to ensure stability(although depending on how they go they might take a while longer to ensure stability:D) So I was just curious as to what ppd i can expect from them at stock. Any ideas ?


 
I did the test with a E2180 recently for a customer built (got permission to borg it so I did the test with 2x console clients). I get about 350-400 ppd. With SMP, it's about 1200 ppd.

 
This is a pretty good thread on the E2180 and SMP. It looks like a nice cheap folder.

At stock speed it's got to be around 900-1k

Mine is OC-ed and I get 1350

Although I have never folded with an E2180, I am confident that a longer test period will be "required" to fully explore reliability...:D

I forget which work units I was getting, but my stock 2140 was averaging around 800 ppd with the SMP client. Then the new work units started hitting and it was missing final deadlines by a few hours so I ended up selling the system and putting the money towards a new quad build.

With a 2180 you should be making the deadlines fine.
 
Just remember, the SMP client isn't exactly the best thing to install for a borg unless you have access to the machine at will. Otherwise, you'll probably be better off installing two regular console clients as a service.

I'm afraid I can't give you any clue as to the points it will put out. The slowest Intel I personally have for folding has been an E6400@3.4 which was running the SMP client basically as soon as it came out.

The closest setup I have to yours would probably be my X2 4000+@3.0Ghz and it does around 1350PPD on the 2605 and 2653 work units. However, that's with a 900mhz overclock.

 
My own estimate is precisly with the computer being a inacessible borg in mind ;)

 
Basically the two pcs will be going to dad's office which doesn't have net access so I was just run the smp for a week to check stability and give a little ppd boost after that I won't be seeing them for a long while.


 
My E2180 @ 2.5ghtz running a single console in XP was pushing ~ 300-500 PPD I believe. It was very WU dependent. Could have easily handled two consoles, or even one SMP, but I didn't want to push it since it is my DVR/TV. In fact that is why the OC was so low... Damn Shuttle and their locking the memory multiplier on the SG31G2.

I bet you could run the SMP and not even notice a difference.

 
Probably, but I was a little concerned about deadlines since I didn't (and still don't) really have a good understanding of them... Based on my E8400 (running @ 3.7ghtz, 19 hours for a single SMP WU) I know the E2180 @ 2.5ghtz would take longer than 24 hours to complete a SMP WU. In fact I would expect 36+ hours for the E2180.

36 hours is sufficient to make deadlines. The actual deadlines vary between 42 hours and 96 hours (with the 2665 having 6 days).
