what would net me more PPD?

SMP on Intel e6600

or

Uniprocessor and GPU client w/9800gt and same Intel e6600

all stock
WinXP
3gb or ram

off top of my head, I think the SMP might, but it would probably be close.

I'd say SMP on the 6600 + the GPU 9800. I ran a 9600 + 8800 on a Q6600, memory says around 12K ppd.

H.

Having had the exact same set up in the past i found it best to run 2 uni proc clients as well as the gpu. Depending on WU the 9800 will be good for ~5k.

As for the cpu, well we have the a3 & a4 cores now so you might be able to do SMP but i think some of the new larger WU on both a3 and a4 cores will be a bit of a struggle. Best thing to do is experiment

would this make the computer unusable then? .. I use it for streaming netflix and her movies that I have ripped to the hard drive .. as well as "play" tux paint and sproutonline games

with just the smp running .. it doesn't hiccup on anything .. just a bit slow launching some things at first is all.

I have an HD4670 1gb vidcard in there now, but have an "extra" 9800gt laying around now that I could throw in it.

The GPU should be good for 5k.

+1 for this, I've run a fair few GPUs in the past (dozens). If you run both SMP/Uni and GPU and use all the CPU cores/threads, make sure you set the the GPU to low priority and the SMP/Uni to idle. If you don't, it is very likely that you will starve the GPU and get rubbish PPD from it.
