on my 8800GT when it starts out it is going at 4800PPD then it keeps going downhill, now it is at 4100ppd and can go as low as 3500, why does it do this? i set the fan speed to 100% with rivatuner?

Are you running the smp client too? What are the temps? Do you have it on screensaver mode? Are you opening up the viewer in the gpu client?

Are you watching any videos or doing anything else that uses the CPU much? All of those things can slow down the GPU client. It normally doesn't drop a whole lot for me on most videos until I start up an HD movie.

i set the fan to 100% with rivatuner, and the ppd has gone back up, but the temp has not gone down?

What temps is it running at? My EVGA superclocked 8800GT with core at 675, shaders at 1800 and memory at 1000 is running 65C right now under full F@H load with an ambient temp of 79F. This is with the fan running at 100%.

All I can say is that it's nice to have ambient temps this low. Most of the summer it's been in the mid 80s at the coolest. With the a/c on.

about 60C

maybe it was down clocking with a low fan speed? I'm not sure but it is back up to 4700PPD, i will have to wait a few work units to really tell, i was running this at 3500PPD for the past month, i hope this fixes it.

ok it has done several work units now and has not gone back down, a steady 4800ppd :D

I'm wondering if at some point Windows or the video card drivers were downclocking the GPU like it can be set to for "2D" mode. I believe a number of people may have had trouble with this back when the client for nVidia cards was first released.

that happens to me if I put "blank screen" as the screen saver.

When I use a 3D screensaver it stays in 3D mode.
