Powertune Resets to 0%

Hi, i monitored afterburner with overdrive. When it goes into 2d profile. The powertune setting reset to 0%. Its logic i know since 20% is only bound to 3d. But ive seen alot of people dont have this bug.
So basically when i set it to 20% and then run furmark it doesnt throttle but when i quit furmark it goes into 2d mode (msi afterburner) and then it resets powertune to 0%. its pretty annoying because it also throttles in games not much but it does. For example i checked metro 2033 benchmark and it does throttle the clocks. So basically my question is does anyone have any fix for this so that it doesnt change powertune setting when going into 2d?

single gpu or crossfire? A 2nd gpu in crossfire will be greyed out in ccc unless it is active....otherwise not sure because the powertune setting should save. Trying setting it, close CCC, then reboot windows. That should write the 20% value to registry and save it

I use single gpu. It does infact save it to 20% wen i check it but it still throttles so it doesnt apply good. The only thing it really doesnt throttle is if i set it in ccc then run furmark it doesnt throttle i quit furmark then it resets to 0% disabling overdrive and set powertune value to 20 doesnt fix it either. Nor does restart fix it its something else. Its only the 2d profile mod which reset it. I just tested in when i only use 3d profile it doesnt reset. So basically i hope some genius comes here and tells me how to maybe set with register that 2d mode still keeps powertune at 20.

I have the same issue, I guess Afterburner just doesn't cooperate well with CCC.

I like ati and all but i think its just not acceptable that they dont make something like afterburner in ccc itself. The company makes so much money and they dont even make something like this. -_-

The settings do save. The only thing that could cause this is overdrive not being checked as enabled, or MSI afterburner overriding it. Powertune saves for me , so it sounds like afterburner may override it. CCC does have gpu clock, memory clock, and power tune built in, and the settings should save. Something is awry on your system. While i'm sure having MSI afterburner within ccc would be nice, neither AMD or nvidia have built in voltage controls in their control panel applets. NV does not even have gpu clocks or memory clocks , either.

Are you using the latest beta verison of msi afterburner? 2.2 beta 11. I do not know why your settings are not saving, unless you're not using the right driver (should be using AMD web driver 1/9 or 1/19) or a bad version of MSI afterburner. Get the latest beta of MSI afterburner, and try disabling the "overclock at system startup" option. See if thats overriding ccc.

Im using latest beta version 2.2. beta 11. Disabling overclock at system startup doesnt fix powertune from resetting.

I had the same driver issue when I had my 7970. Pain in the ass!

Try uninstalling it temporarily to see if it is somehow interacting with CCC's powertune. Also, what kind of PSU are you using? Powertune ups your TDP considerably, so if your PSU doesn't like it that could be a cause.

Dunno. In my case powertune saves fine so it has to be something interacting with it. Question is, why do you use powertune anyway? Honestly, if your'e using voltage manipulation in afterburner - you don't need powertune. Direct voltage manipulation gives you better and more accurate load voltage than powertune does. ...using both is kind of redundant

I have had this problem for a couple months now, where it randomly resets the setting and every time I try to set it back, it resets automatically.

Two ways I've solved it: click the Defaults button in overdrive, apply, and try again; reboot if that doesn't work

-_- I have said in the beginning that it is afterburner that makes powertune reset. For the 3th time 2d mode resets powertune. No its not the psu .....

Mine infrequently does the same thing. Happened on my 6950's as well. I also use Afterburner and I can tell right off when it's been set back to 0 from +20% when in BF3. Although it sounds like you have a different issue altogether as it happens all the time and only happens occasionally for me. I'd try a driver refresh if I were you.

I sure wish that eventually Overdrive starts offering what Afterburner and the like can do (fan profiles specifically for me) or that Afterburner, ASUSTweak, Trixx, etc. start to incorporate the powertune setting into their apps. so we can use one or the other instead of having to use both which leads to many similar compatability issues. Afterburner is great but sometimes the fan profile does not take on computer wake from hibernation and both my GPU's go to 50% because "enable manual fan control" has to be ticked in Overdrive or the Afterburner profile won't work. The default in overdrive is 50%. I usually just have to open the fan profile tab in Afterburner then hit "ok" and the fan profile takes back over.

Powertune occasionally resets for me in both single GPU and crossfire. If it resets in the middle of a game then it crashes. rather than dealing with Powertune in CCC I would rather have a program like Afterburner or Trixx allow access to Powertune so CCC could be skipped altogether!

I've never had it reset "on the fly.." as you describe. For me it usually resets to 0% after waking from hibernation or on boot itself.

So my question is why do you need powertune if you have afterburner to manipulate voltages with. Its redundant and not necessary. Afterburner doesn't reset powertune for me so i'd look into a fresh install, uninstall it and instruct it to not save settings, and comb your registry to remove all traces. Shrug.

Because powertune has nothing to do with voltages and everything to do with the a higher maintainable TDP.

What does +20% do anyways? ive always left mine at 0 and i can push the sliders all to the right with no problems.
