Ok, so long story short. I think my PSU fried (Ultra) so I'm in need of a new one. Unfortunately I threw all my spares away last month thinking I won't need them. Do'h!
This actually is for my mom's PC. Its running 1 74gb Raptor, 1 DVD drive, a xi-fi sound card, a Anthlon 3500+, AGP 7800GS and 2 gigs of Corsair Ram. Im guessing I'll need technically ~300-350 but I'm looking at 400+ to be on the safe side.

It needs to be quiet and move air fairly well since this is in a HTPC case. Budget is as cheap as possible :D Modular would be nice. Max budget I would say $65 or so. Any ideas?
 
Corsair 450 watt. Its not modular however its plenty of power for that setup. If you really want a modular, not sure of any good ones in that price range.
 
There aren't any good modular units in the $65 range. I agree with the 450W suggestion. You could even do an Antec Earthwatts 380W if they're still on sale for $30.

I thought about that. Does anybody know how they are with their warrantys? Ive had it for, I don't know, somewhere like 1.5-2 years and they cover up to 3. However I dont have all the cables and Im not sure If Ill be able to find them.

If anybody has experience let me know. I wonder if I just sent it back saying that it blew if they'd replace it.
 
Just contact them. Ask them whether or not your PSU is covered by a warranty. Be sure to tell them what model PSu you have. In fact, what model PSU do you have?
 
The good news first: Ultra give a 3-year warranty on their PSU's - but if you take the time to go and register with them, it turns into a LifeTime warranty. OK, so much for the good news.
Ultra's warranty replacement program is highly questionable - you have to provide standard proof of Date-Of-Purchase, a copy of the invoice or receipt. The down-side is, they only do advanced replacement, so have that credit card ready when you are on the phone with their rep so he can charge you for the current full MSRP of their unit that went out on you. Of course, they do technically refund that exact amount once they receive your returned part, but... I still don't consider that to be "customer service" or even just plain neighborly. If I had to pay for a whole new part every time a part went out, I'd be writing you this note on an ABACUS! LOL

with Ultra's Advanced Replacement Or No Replacement customer service program,
you always have to have that credit card ready *sigh*

Ok so I called them and they said I can return it and since its not made anymore I would get the 750W X-2. So I asked them if I can upgrade to a 600W x-3.....no. Fine. So I emailed them and asked if I could instead get my money back, 99.99, which would save them money since the 750 is like $130.

Answer? I'll forward this to my manager and he'll call you tomorrow. Ugh....I hate talking to people. Its not that I dont WANT the x-2 750w its just that my mom doesn't need that for her PC. If anything Ill just sell it for 100 or so and buy the Corsair 520W modular.
