I have a PC Power and Cooling 750w psu. I have killed one of these in the past as well as it's replacement which was the old one but "fixed". After the second RMA I got them to send me a new PSU. Anyways due to that I don't really trust this thing. I just noticed the occasional whine coming from the psu. I put my ear up to the fan and noticed that it happens all of the time. Should I consider replacing this psu?
 
Probably just coil whine.

Don't worry about it. No problem with that besides the noise.
 
Could just be coil whine, or maybe the brand of fan they use just makes that kind of noise? As long as it works and your not that bothered by the noise, and it's stable...I wouldn't worry about it much.
 
It probably is coil whine, sounds just like my 280 or the x2 that I had. The part that worries me a bit is that I have had this psu for almost two years now and have never noticed this before. I've never heard of coil whine coming out of nowhere. It usually happens from day one.
 
Stop your fan while your system is at peak usage (only for like 10 seconds) and see if the noise is still there.

An easy way to do this is to quickly goto standby and then the fan stops spinning and you can stick a toothpick in to stop it, then quickly get out of standby and back to doing whatever you were doing with a full power load on the PSU and see if the whine is not there.

Don't leave the toothpick in for more than 30 seconds. If it's just the fan, then it's a simple replacement because that PSU uses standard size fans.
 
No it's not that loud but two years of that crappy 80mm fan that barely spins doesn't help I'm sure.
 
I had one that did this I got rid of it after a month I couldn't bare it, bought an Antec Neo and have been as pleased as I could be possibly be, the thing is dead quiet. God bless the world. :D
 
Great thread for me, as I was experiencing some kind of whining noise with my Corsair 1000 PSU which I bought recently. Sometimes it even makes that sound when the system is power down, as long as the power socket is still turn on.

Never experience such noise with my Gigabyte Odin 550W though

Good to know there's nothing to worry about
