My computer went down and most, if not all, of the main components are dead.

I have a Corsair CMPSU-550VX power supply that may be faulty. This is my first power supply failure out of about 5 PSU's that I've owned, so I have a noob question to ask.

I did the paper clip test and the PSU fan turns on. When I have a 120mm connected and I do the paper clip test, the PSU fan and 120mm fan turn on.

But when I connect a 120mm fan and an optical drive--the PSU fan, 120mm fan, and the optical drive turn on, but all shut off after about 5 seconds.

Is it safe to say that this PSU went bad?

If you can test the PSU in another PC or test your parts with another PSU, then it would be safe to say that the PSU is bad

Then yes, fill out an RMA request with Corsair. They even ask you to do the paperclip test, and if it fails, links you to an trouble ticket form.
