Specs in sig!

i have 9 drives in this system and want to put more in (8 more possibly). so need a good power supply with plenty of sata/ molex connectors.
please recommend me one..

I'd go with a Corsair 750TX, the 60 amp 12v rail should handle quite a lot of drives.
 
that many drivers the bgi strain will be on boot, i have a corsair 650 and when i used all 8 SATA ports the system wouldnt boot power on, cut out, power on cut out, WHY give 8 SATA ports if it cant power 8 drivesd!

i took one off and it worked fine..... :rolleyes:


the 750 should work fine.... splitting between SATA and 4pjn molex with splitters.

what are the other specs of the server

Will be fine with even more than that. I'm currently running a few 21 drives systems off a 750TX, and a 750 PC&P on 21 drives.

The PSU's have plenty of room, I'm pretty sure I can probably get close to 30 drives before I'd cause issues.

There should be no major strain on boot, as I have mentioned above, the 21 drive systems are booting all drives at once upon startup with no issues.

Corsair 750TX or PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 are two good choices. Hell, it's been shown that they could power 20 drives if the main PC is low powered enough:

So for your system, either of those PSUs will be good for 16 drives.

The PC&P is another great unit, the 750TX is a little shorter and quieter, it also looks a little more sleeker.

Why when one is more than enough?

Or use hot swap bays and a RAID controller that support staggered spin-up.

No need for staggered spinup when you can boot more than 21 drives one shot.
 
I had my system running on an Antec 480watt PSU.
8 Drives (4 SATA and 4 IDE) P4 3.4ghz, eVGA 7800GS, PCI USB Card, PCI SATA/IDE Card, Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS, and 4 large case fans.

I currently have a 550watt Antec in there with 7 drives now.

Ockie is booting fine with 21 drives on a 750.
 
You Reckon my current Silverstone Strider 750w will handle 20 drives Ockie as well as everything else?

That doesn't seem right. I have 2 computers with the 620. One computer has 11 hard drives, dual-core CPU, 2 gigs of ram, and a 2600xt and has never had any problems.

The other has 9 hard drives, an overclocked quad core, an overclocked 8800GT and an 8600GT, and 4 gigs of ram. Again, no problems.
 
As per the norm, I'll suggest the BFG I have. Even with a huge load at boot, it's ability to provide nearly its entire wattage to the 12V lines would make it beneficial. It's also shorter than the others mentioned, if that matters to you.

Should run fine, but I am not too familiar with the Strider series and how they perform compared to the PC&P and Corsair systems.
 
Easy math.

Drive on power up ~24W. For safety and easy maths, lets go with 25W. 20 drives @ 25W = 500W. 500W into 12V = 41 Amp. With a single rail 12V line...you are more than safe.
