I think I want to upgrade from my dual 23" lcds to the Apple 30"s. I understand it needs a dual link dvi card, but I want 2 of these monitors.

Other than the Quadro FX 4500 anybody know of a responable card or could I even buy 2 seperate PCI-E Dual Link DVI cards?

I am honestly not that worried about gaming etc. I simply use this PC at the office for web design etc.

I *think* the X1x00 cards have dual dual-link DVI. If so, a X1300 would work well for you. If thats not true though... do you have an SLI mobo where you can run two independent PCIE cards?

EDIT: http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=1629&redirect=yes

There is the X1800XT running two apple 30"... not sure if the X1300 has the same capability, cant find much on it.

EDIT2: http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2005/10/17/sapphire_radeon_x1800xl/1.html

Seeing as the card has two dual-link DVI ports, we hope that Sapphire will amend this bundle to include a second VGA-to-DVI converter for those gamers who are still running two analogue monitors.

Selling on newegg for $390: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102612

"Maximum 3D Graphics Resolution of 2560x1600" aka native apple 30" resolution. Sounds like this is the ticket.

i wish i could afford that :(

I can't seem to find any of last gen's top cards with dual link DVI ports. I could have sworn that the X850 Xt/Pe had them...

yeah, the x1800xl is pretty much your best bet for a decent price.
Does the XL have dual-link DVI or is it the XT? And will it be all XT's?

And the new Quad Power Mac can do up to 8x 30" ACD's. Which is a resolution of 20800x1600.
no it cant....*copied directly from apples website*

The NVIDIA GeForce FX 4500 graphics card occupies the 16-lane PCI Express slot and adjacent PCI Express slot. Maximum of two NVIDIA GeForce FX 4500 or GeForce 7800 graphics cards per system. Eight 20-inch or 23-inch Apple Cinema Displays can be connected to the Power Mac G5 using four NVIDIA GeForce 6600 graphics cards.

we will not see an 8x30in monitor setup with the new G5 tower

The more research i've done, ive basically found X1800XL and XT have two dual-like, X1600 and X1300 have one dual-link

The dual dual link dvi's on ati are For X1800 exclusively. I read the X1600 and X1300s will only have 1 dual link dvi & 1 dvi. There are whispers of nvidia's 512mb 7800 Phantom card coming soon may have dual- dual link dvi's like it's big brother quadro 4500. Matter of fact its very possible the New 7800 will mimick this quadro 4500, both have 512MB, Heck they may even be based on the same GPU G70GL. Just speculation but who knows. ;)

so imagine ... if you wallpapered a hot chic across two 30" LCDs . would that be lifelike ? if so ... I think lots of uswill find a way to afford a couple.

Ha... its possible. They are 32" long... sol 32*2/12=5.3ft. Of course viewiavle will be a few inches less, but find a shorty and she'll fit.

Lol, that's awsome.

Do you really like the look of the Apple monitors or does brand not matter? If you wait until December, Dells 3007FPWs will be out and I imagine that they will be a whole lot cheaper then those 30 inch Apple monitors.

To each his own I guess, I personally think it's one of the nicest looking displays out there :D

Hey let me know if you are interested in selling those 23's after you get your 30's

I didn't know Dell was coming out with 30 inchers. I may just wait then and see the price difference and how they look.

Thanks for the comments guys, this is very helpful.

Sorry won't be selling the 23 inchers. I will probably give them to an employee or something.

IMO Dell's look great, expecially next to ACD's. The apples have that huge ass bezel on them.. can't stand it.

but just the 1st DVI port though, not both. I think the 2nd dvi is only 1600x1200
