I just had a crazy idea and am hoping someone here can tell me exactly why it won't work.
Google's new Voice service (which ought to be available to the public anytime now, right Google?
) gives you unlimited free calls within the US. You just call your Google number from any phone, then dial the number you really want, and Google will connect you for free. You only pay for the airtime cost of calling your Google number; Google does not charge you anything for the calls.
T-Mobile (ironically, the makers of the G1 Android phone) offer their "myFaves" service, which allows unlimited calling to five numbers that you select each month. Apparently these can be on any network - even a landline.
So, my plan (to be enacted as soon as Google Voice is released) is as follows:
1. Sign up for Google Voice and get a Google number.
2. Buy T-Mobile G1 with cheapest voice plan (300 min - $39.99 + data plan)
3. Add my Google number as a myFaves number.
4. Enjoy unlimited minutes for the price of 300. (i.e. save $60/month)
Now if only I could do something similar with text and data...
I can't figure out any problems with this idea, but it seems too good to be true. Anyone want to tell me what I'm missing?
