Thought it would be cool to start a thread where you could post a unique mod you did, also a place people can get some cool ideas as to what to do to their computer.

Now, I'm not looking for fully modded cases but small things, much like the individual sleeving of power cable wires. Or maybe if you modded the case to make it easier to run wires etc.

Let's see it! And keep the comments to a minimum if possible!

Havent finished mine just yet, but good idea, I hope we see some good ones.

Just a paint job to an old HP case i had laying around.

This mod is still in progress. The original finish flaked off so I have spent the last week on and off completely stripping it down to bare metal and starting over.

This was an order that came through the site for 2 custom painted power supplies. They are going into a Case Labs TH-10 and need a durable, high gloss finish, so I took it upon myself to completely skip the idea of painting it and went for something of a higher quality without the added cost of powder coating.

Basic functionality test. This is critical since the warranty of these $250 power supplies is now void.

First I was going to mask the emblems that came with the PSUs, then decided against it. I would have spent quite a while getting it right. I decided to peel them off and reapply them afterwards.

Decals temporarily stuck to the backing of a shipping label I had printed this morning. This allows it to not permanently stick and they will be easy to remove when the time comes to put them back in place.

I can't really go into specifics of the type of coating used for this. I can tell you this service runs $75 and up depending on the power supply and how difficult / involved it is to get it apart or the prep work involved to mask around the parts not to be painted (e.g., overspray). I'm pleased with how it looks and will bring everything inside later after it's finished curing.

^That's what I want to see in this thread! That's awesome. I can't wait to see the finished product all put back together. Ever think of switching out the fans? Maybe throw some led fans in there? (sorry i'm a lighting fan boy)

I have been thinking of converting my Cx430 to a modular power supply... don't know if I have the guts to do it yet though.

I once had a TX 650 converted to being somewhat modular on the 4 pin peripheral cables. Came out quite nice actually.

Do I have to? This was back in 2009 before I knew better. The sleeving is "Superhero" Powerblends by Techflex. Absolute rubbish compared to the stuff we have now.

Yes, that 8 pin EPS cable is 35" long. :)

Nice work guys ill add some to this comment when i get home to take pictures.

I am thinking of making my cx430 modular using some male/female 8 & 6 pin connectors and then also a 24 pin connector. Think it will work guys? It'll end looking like the modular corsair power supplies.

Replaced the power button in my PC-A16 with a lighted Bulgin-style button. Yeah, so what? you ask. The "unique" part is that I built a little circuit to power the LED in the switch, rather than plug the LED into my motherboard power-LED headers. Initially I did have it plugged into the mobo's power-LED header. But I put my PC in standby when I'm not using it, and found the flashing light annoying.

The PC-A16 is a couple years retired now, but the button-LED-circuit lives on, currently in a PC-A04:

Off: no lighting

Standby: dim lighting

On: bright lighting

The circuit itself, tucked in the top corner of the case

Next destination for the button-and-circuit will be a PC-P80 that pretends to be a PC-A77F, which I suspect may be fairly unique in and of itself.

Now that is pretty sweet. I wish I had the electrical know-how to be able to do that kind of stuff!

Ben at Mountain Mods made a sweet resevior for me:

choaservers excellent sleeving . . .I am taking the entire thing out of the psu case and will mount it in the bottom of the thorax . . .plan to add a custom waterblock . . .when Rokk has time to cut it ;)

First attempt at brain . . .now brain damage:

ended up here

Me with Chris Trumble from CPU Mag:

Creepy as hell but really awesome. You should post a build log in the worklog forum, you'll probobly make it on the front page.

It doesn't have to be, As long as its unique.

Alright then, I think both of these are rather unique.
Wooden triple monitor stand!

And it's now retired predecessor. Custom desk with hard mounted monitor.

Wow that's an awesome case! And awesome monitor stand there! I wish I could make something like that for my desk, it would clean it up a bit if it stood up a little more.

I dig the older sony str, Wooden monitor stand and Xbox 360 in a custom Lian li case. Very nice spiko!

Unit 1 hooked up to test functionality. All is well.

The factory stickers have not been reapplied yet. I am waiting to hear back from the client to let me know whether to use them or to use some custom made ones like this:

Or one of these.....

Well, here is mine.

It's more of a functional mod to fit that cooler, rather than a appearance mod.

I'm sure it's not and don't even know why it would be but for some reason this image seems photoshopped to me. I'm probobly just tired or something but either way, nice looking rig.

Its not photoshopped...What makes you say that in the first place?

I'm not sure why I thought that exactly. It's just so clean, especially the cpu cooler tubes. I totally believe you that it's not photoshopped though. Maybe you just have a nice camera that captured the light/reflection around those tubes.

Photography is one of my hobbies :)

Picture was taken using this:

It's my Nikon D90 with a Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 lens and a Nikon SB900 flash.

I did touch it up to get rid of some ugly cat hairs (they get in everything!) and adjust the light levels a little afterwards though, but nothing around the tubes :p

This is inside my Rig...If the back panel was on it would look as if no cables are there & make you wonder where are the cables...

Damn that's a nice camera, definitely jealous of the lens and flash! I have a D80 :) FTWPC, can't wait to see that beast sleeved.. is it going in an all white case?

This is my first post and I'm not sure this is either unique or a mod (as it's just sitting on top of the case for now), or in the correct thread or forum (ghetto mods?) so feel free to yell at me.
My remote control PC power switch:
07280133.JPG

It's Teensy based and uses an IR receiver thingy from a VCR. The Teensy is used to actuate a relay for the PC power switch.

Here's the breadboard as it was developed:

And the remote mapping. It also works as a somewhat clunky mouse and shortcut remote.
