Im pretty sure the DAC is balanced, and i know your power amp is balanced
I love how you can load your library on the sonos exterior storage, so you can acess your library without the need of your comp, but 1k is a bit steep asking price for a home media player and server...imo

Just FYI, the wallet hit was $7500 retail so it's not the B52 although I thought long and hard about that one. You're so on the right track.. but not 100% there yet. I'm crossing my fingers that it arrives safely. Tax alone on something like that is enough to feed me food for a month (or 2) and I'd hate to see it go to waste.

If anybody is wondering about my neighbors, they bang on the walls and my floor (their ceiling) anytime I turn it up to around -5 not to mention my Marantz goes up to +18. :) The subwoofer I believe is the neighbor killer in my setup since I live in an apartment. Good news is the only neighbors I have are below me since I am on the top floor.

In two days I will be receiving my new pair of headphones and I'll be posting them in the headphones arena... Sennheiser HD595's

The projector was a gift from my uncle. Unfortunately the color wheel is broken and the bulb is almost dead and would require around 2000 dollars to fix it :( Current status is it's just sitting there.

Marketing for the Monster gear I suppose. But I honestly believe with all my heart that Marantz and Monitor Audio are absolutely great companies based on my experiences here and at the store (listening to different speakers and different receivers in the past).
 
Actually for the record since I am somewhat offended by the marketing comment:

(In order of which I received)


Purchased Boston speakers as a pack of Center Sat 7, two Micro90x satellites, and two Micro80x satellites for 100 dollars total back about 3 or 4 years ago. At the time I had no idea who Boston Acoustics was or much about these speakers at all except that they were much better than a set of Sony speakers I was running (home theater in a box speakers yuck).

As for the receiver, I went and listened to several receivers like Marantz, Yamaha, Harman Kardon, Denon, and Onkyo. Comparing the Marantz SR7500 directly to the Denon AVR-2106 I came to the conclusion that the Marantz was very warm sounding which was desirable by me (when using bright speakers such as the Bostons). The only way I was familiar with Marantz at the time was that my dad still owns a 2230 (I believe) from the 70's and it's an amazing receiver and was very impressed during my childhood by its capabilities.

I then got my Monster Power Center. I was using a standard Belkin power strip and thought that since I was running a few dollars worth of gear, that I'd rather use something that was geared for home theater and home audio equipment. I would have purchased Panamax or something comparable but they cost way too much. I found this Monster as a store display model on eBay for 100 dollars after shipping and I am pleased to actually say that I could sell it for that price if I wanted these days. It works well (not noticably) but helps me sleep at night and is a good conversation piece when I talk with people about it.

When I graduated from High School, my Uncle gave me his M&K MX105 as a graduation gift. I had briefly known that M&K is a favorite speaker company of George Lucas but basically nothing more than that. It is an awesome subwoofer that packs some serious punch and yet isn't "boomy" or sound directional. Before I had this subwoofer, I had a Yamaha 100 watt subwoofer which was great for the price back in the day (150 bucks) but I could never go back after using this M&K.

After that I received the Marantz DV4600 because I was running a POS Sony from Best Buy that my mother gave to me as a gift (she honestly does not know anything about electronics except to listen to the idiots at Best Buy). I sold the Sony for 40 dollars (SACD capabilities made it have a higher resell value) and purchased this Marantz DV4600 for around 70 dollars brand new on eBay. It works absolutely great with no complaints and in my setup it matches my Marantz receiver really well.

Essentially the last thing I added to my system (besides the Microsoft Zune) was the Monitor Audio RS1 speakers. I had been shopping around for a pair of stereo speakers last year to replace the small Boston satilites that would go a little deeper than 120 Hz and I came across Monitor Audio speakers. I first listened to a Definitive Technology set of speakers but it wasn't pleasant to my ears at all. Then I listened to the Monitor Audio B2's... then BR2's... then absolutely fell in love with the RS1's. After reading up online a little bit, most people didn't recommend going for any of the Bronze line because the Silver didn't cost much more and yet it sounded so much better. The Gold line costs quite a bit more and most people think it has a cost-benefit ratio that the Silver line does. I paid 350 dollars brand new for the pair of these speakers. (normally 600 dollars/pair).

I enjoy every part of my stereo and I can even say that the Boston Acoustics Micro90x and Center Sat 7 are even really good for what they are being used for. (the Micro80x is a little dull sounding so I kind of gave the pair of those to my parents). The Monster cable used as interconnects and speaker cable between the less important speakers was purchased a long time ago when I can admit that Monster's impressive marketing scheme took part. The couple of things I have that are Audioquest I received thru my uncle (much like other components of my stereo) at a very discounted price. I can't say anything bad about Monster because they have done their job and they didn't cost a fortune.

I am against many mass marketing schemes such as Klipsch and Bose.

Maybe this can answer a few unanswered questions that you may be wondering.
 
I'm guessing he's referring to the Monster gear, I wouldn't think someone here would fault someone for owning Marantz or Monitor Audio.

I do question your subwoofer placement though, but if you like it that's all that matters.

Since you got the items in question for WAY cheaper than their "retail", er I mean ass rapage prices..., then you get a +1, so right now you are just at 0. :O No, I am not jealous, I just like to try new things, such as headphones (yeah, still in this category, any extra money from the display will be used for a nice amp), computers (eh, my 7800GT plays everything I want to play on high), and right now saving for my Samsung 50" Plasma (can't come fast enough...Just saving up the checks) and can't put all of my money in one thing along with other things that come up, such as getting new clothes, newest pieces of clothes I got were from March, and I wear those T-Shirts everyday, 5 for 20 at Foot Locker FTW.

So you are implying that people should not do what I'm doing... buying only one category "toy"

First off: People have their priorities. Mine happens to be music because that's what I love most in this world

Second: If someone hasn't found their main priorities or don't have any major priorities then they dispurse their money evenly (or foolishly) among the different needs of humans. Such categories are clothes, stereos, TVs, food, and toys.

I live with 4 roommates (each has their own room).One of them loves computers (he has 4 PCs, one of which is a kickass workstation with some crazy ass 1500 dollar video card). Another loves sports (he buys lots of sports gear, goes to many basketball and football games, and watches sports constantly on his TV nonstop). Another loves guitars (he has a 1000+ dollar plus Marshall tube amp and an American made Fender Stratocastor and a cheapy guitar). And another doesn't really have a love (so he has a few computer parts, a pretty nice TV, an old school Pioneer Elite receiver and speakers that I loaned him). It has been acknowledged that I love music and thus that's why I have the biggest stereo system any of them have ever seen (with the exception of one who's dad has one with a 5000 dollar Yamaha 9.1 receiver). They respect my priorities as I respect theirs.

I respect that you wish to have a nice display by having a nice graphics card and a 50" plasma TV. By the pictures I have posted, you can obviously tell that I don't care much for video since I own a 27" round CRT JVC non-HD TV. I cheaped so much out on a TV that I paid 10 dollars for this TV. It's for watching DVDs on the rare occasion. Reason why I don't spend much money on video. [I do have to say that my Marantz does an awesome job at surround sound for movies (espessially like any of the Star Wars in THX surround mode)]

One last note about the Monster equipment. It has been acknowledged at many places online that Monster makes pretty good power conditioners and that their cables are not worth the money. Many of the Monster interlinks and wires I have were purchased around 5 years ago when my two choices were mainly Monster or Radioshack POS cables. Of course Monster had a huge name and relatively didn't cost that much more than the Radioshack shit. The Audioquest I got recently thru my uncle, I essentially paid nothing for those. I actually write in my specs that I have many Monster Cables because it's impressive to people who have never heard of anything better than Monster Cables, not that I'm particularly proud of these cables. If I didn't write what I was connecting, someone might question what I was using. So that's why I wrote it there.

Regardless, I don't mean to be rude and I don't mean to push any buttons but many people in the world agree with me. Probably even Pinipig (I hope!)

No, never really said that, I just gave you an example of why I don't have impressive equipment in any of those categories, well and because I now have a job I can upgrade those categories. You know, balance them out at a slow, but steady pace.

It usually goes from computers, to HT, to headphones, to cars, it just depends on what I am interested in at the moment. I put most of my money in the "technology" category mostly (includes all of those above), but have not narrowed it down to any of those sub-categories however.

Play on playa... you like what you got, I like what you got - your setup is enviable to many. I agree that priorities will rule one's economics... just make sure not to ask me how to plan for retirement because at this rate, I'm not the best to ask. :)

I swear though, I'm slowing down and I'm going to be saving up once I graduate.

I'm sure Ryan would have done the same had it been presented to him at this time, but given that he bought his Monsters way long ago - I'm sure he was not as knowledgeable as he is now. I doubt he even knew about Monoprice. I didn't even hear about Monoprice until just this past year.
 
Pinipig: well stated. Not that I'd use 300 hookers (or even 1 for that matter). And true enough, back a while ago I was not familiar with the audio market much like many consumers buy Bose because they've never heard of other "good" companies.

It shows full retail for warranty purposes as the manufacturer doesn't like the dealers to give out discounts..

I think the batteries are duracell industrial AAAs... lol!!

I dont mind though, keep in mind I paid about 50% of what you see there. I'm not stupid enough to pay full retail! :D:p
