this is not my house.. but a friends house. Just thought you guys would get a kick out of it. Most people don't have redundant T1's, 4hrs of battery backup, tape autoloaders, cisco routers / switches, dual xeon servers, and rack at their house. Also notice the pringles can.. it's shooting the T1 to a buddies house a few streets down! :)

My actual rig is at the end of page 5.

Does he host his own ISP or something? or just too much cash and free time?

He had a huge order for bandwidth at the job he works at... and worked out a deal to include a redundant T1 at his house. It's redundant because Quest normally doesn't install in residential neighborhoods and he is in the boonies. If his inet goes out, they have him just unplug and plug into the second T1 instead of sending a technician out there. He also hosts pages too and works out of his house whenever he can to fix issues at all the locations. He definitely doesn't have much spare time though.. but having the servers at home with good bandwidth saves him time he would have spent driving to all the locations.

wwwoooooooooooooooowwww

can you tell us more about that pringle can?... like what it does, how it works, how he made it, etc?

Here is the jist of it. However you can buy one already wired up to hook up to your access point.

Basically what it does is focus the wireless signal, used in conjuction with a modified (boosted voltage) access point.. you can shoot it over 5 miles. There are plans all over the net on how to do it. Just search Google for "wireless pringles can". It's basically a "line of sight" antenna. You gotta be careful though... you could seriously kill some brain cells if your cat bumps it at night and it ends up facing you while you are sleeping. lol.

Best part of this? My fridge sits on an empty ream of wire. Straight white trash action!

God I hate my camera.

Here it is, my desk(s) top.

While my comp was between life and death:

And now:

It's challenging to find a comfortable/ergonomic setup, when you don't have a lot of space... and you are limited by the wires length... You have to plug the flatbed, the printer, DSL modem, speakers, etc...

I was kinda shy before posting those pics, but when I saw I wasn't the only one with tons of stuff lying around everywhere... ;) :p

recently i cleaned up a lil and reorganized the wires to a point where its acceptable

but it seriously needs a new fresh coat of paint and i gotta clean out a lotta junk my mom leaves in my room

the stuff on that site is kinda confusing with all the dB info and wavelengths explanations, etc

is there a site that you know of that explains it to total noobs who are new to this idea? thanks

is there more info on the pringle can thing?

by the way, can this work with both laptop wireless cards and the desktop usb/ethernet wireless adapter?....meaning a usb or ethernet cable running to an adapter that transmits it into wireless
