I second that.

My first tube amp was a Millet made by him, and I fucking loved that amp. Twas gorgeous, and sounded great for what I paid... especially after I sent it back to him for a few small upgrades. I do love my Melos, but if a high end tube amp made by him popped up, I would seriously consider it, if nothing else, because hes a nice guy and really easy to work with to get exactly what you want.

Freakin' gorgeous. The lettering looks pretty damn good on these.

Nice sources! The build quality must be insane on those 2 pieces. Which one do you prefer for cd listening?

My hd 600's sitting next to me are wondering why they haven't received the same treatment as you and are complaining about how they haven't had a system upgrade in 6 months

Well... my downsizing adventure is continuing.. in the last 24 hours I sold my HD650, my MisterX built M^3 and my Lite-DAC AH

Down to just the spdif output from my laptop docking station -> receiver -> Alessandro MS-1

Couldnt find the time to use the headphone rig as much as the cost warranted so it's all gone to new homes where it can be better enjoyed.

To note though.. I do love me the sound of the MS-1s something fierce. Maybe in the long term I might add a tube amp to this setup just for them (millet + ms-1 is a great combo as it warms up the ms-1s enough to remove their brightness).

Thank you :D I prefer the Sony XA333es for CD listening it's a fair bit clearer than than the Denon in CD use but it's extremely close. I use the Denon for DVD audio duties for which it sounds incredible.

As for build quality both units are built like a tank they both weigh about 13kg's each, massive power supplys!

Looks lile I have a little finishing work to do still.... amazing how pictures always do that :D

I didn't think tubes and MisterX mixed well together!

looks good, how are you going to finish the wood?

What kind of output are you using on your Millet Max Jacob? That sounded pretty crazy good given the cost of entry. ;)

diamond buffers. I have 3 boards total, parts to build another amp. I want to build the second with sonicaps instead of the wilmas in the CA9 position. Then build the third with a mosfet output stage. Then compare them all. I just don't have the cash flow :(

I know, my max was the cheapest amp we had on Sunday by far, but I didn't think it was severely outclassed. It wasn't the best, but I didn't think it was too far behind. I was impressed and I'm going to have to spend more time with the amp now.

Musical Fidelity X-DAC v2 as a non-CD source

Sorry about the poor quality as the only camera I have is my dive camera which is sub-par out of the water. These are my new cans, HD650. Still waiting on my Z-Audio Lambda amp and Auzentech Prelude. Cant wait to see what these can really do. I might have to shake the piggy bank a bit more and get something from MisterX. Im tired of drooling over his work! I need to give in!

tubes will make those Senns sing. I listened to my HD580's on a beta22 over the weekend and I think my PPX3 or millet max did a better job with them.

I have that same DVD player! Its great as an audio source and has every connection imaginable (except HDMI, it was before its time) The only thing about it is the DVD playback. It snags during layer transitions. Nice listening station though!!

I recabled my Beyer DT770 Pro/80's today with Cardas cable :D. They also have leather pads

Soloz2:

The leather pads make a big difference? Been thinking about ordering some.

Also, I think I read somewhere you sell home-made cables? Have a link? Just curious. Thanks!

Yes, the pads made a huge difference and were worth the $. You can buy pads from Beyer now for $35, but there is speculation that they are slightly different from the Manufactur ones. I haven't had the opportunity to see both in person so I can't say. But apparently the readily available ones don't have holes in the back.

anyway, with the stock pads I found the bass to be bloated and loose. Mids were recessed too much for me to enjoy music. The leather pads tightened up the bass and helped bring out the other frequencies as well. Now they have more controlled bass so the mids and highs don't get lost in the mix. I'm sure with pads things will depend ear shape and user quite a bit too.

Yes, I make cables. I'll email you.

Sometimes I get bored in the wee hours of the morning:

HD555s hangin' out. :)

Mullets and me don't mix well.
There is a careful distinction between real toob amps and Mullets. ;)

I dunno, I still have to decide if I am going to install the trim pieces on the sides or not

IMG_2077.jpg

I am thinking not but that may change, if it does chage the wood is getting stained.

I got to quit taking pictures of that amp....... every time I do I see more crap that needs sanding.
I should have spent more time wet sanding it then I did but that got real old real fast. :p

yeah, I always get impatient when sanding too.

I know there's a difference between what you would call a 'real' tube amp and a millet, but I like my max.

Likewise. I loved my millet, could never figure out why he didn't ;).

And I would go with the trim. Looks nice.

Yeah, I got HD555s, they aren't anything special... :( You all seem to be much more enthusiastic about audio. I really can see what people see when they look at me now...

Enthusiastic? I think crazy is the word. Outside of a meet, I've yet to meet a man who doesn't think I'm stupid when they hear the pricetag of my setup.

HD555's are good cans. If you enjoy them, be happy that you got off cheap :p

I agree when I show or demo any of my rigs/headphones to friends or family they all think it sounds great until they hear the price tag. Sometimes they outright say I'm crazy, other times they're like well... I can't see myself spending that much, but it sure sounds good.

Tell them how much $ it would take to recreate the same (or better, depending on your viewpoint) sound with speakers. That will shut them up ;)

Hip hip HOORAY!
I got my Bel Canto Dac3 from Todd The Vinyl Junkie today :)

Now I need an extention jack to fit into the tiny Tomahawk amp, so I can use my HD650s. Until I do, they dont fit next to the RCA-to-Mini jack, lol.

Next order of buisnes is to get my Headamp GS-1, and allocate the Tomahawk to portable rig only.

Enjoy the gear porn :)

just looking back at some post, but why the scotch tape on the Woo Audio stand?

lol ...classy looking, eh?

The corners are sharp, and were gradually scrapping the paint off of the headphone band. Lucky for me I have no intention of selling my HD650s, but I didn't want the condition to continue. Ive since put some black electrical tape over it, and it looks a little better.

Nice setup how are you liking the Musical Fidelity X-DAC??
I really like the X-DAC but have not done any direct comparisons with it. Anecdotally, it seems far superior to my Game Theater XP and inferior to my Sony --- which was my expectation. I haven't tried anything but a basic optical cable, but I don't expect that to significantly change my relative rating. As a side note, neither the GTXP nor my Soundstorm has bit-perfect output.

I have that same DVD player! Its great as an audio source and has every connection imaginable (except HDMI, it was before its time) The only thing about it is the DVD playback. It snags during layer transitions. Nice listening station though!!
Interestingly enough, I have not even put a DVD in my Sony since I bought it a couple years ago. I bought it used to be my primary audio source
