Loving the Grados man thanks for the great deal. No amplification except whatever is in my Game Theater XP.

I've got a pair of Bose Acoustic Comfort 2's I've been using for a while - though I'm not a true audiophile (I happen to like 5.1 :p) I can say they give very good reproduction, the noise cancelling really does allow for the more subtle notes to come through in complex music (classical, for example).

They certainly can't match my Klipsch sub, so while the bass is good, techno etc. is just not reference quality. They also can't take much amplification before the treble goes tinny, so I don't even bother with a preamp anymore.

Random question: are there any (reasonably priced) headphones that give true > 100Hz reproduction?

BTW cyber those are niice earbuds, I forget the brand/model but a DJ friend of mine has them (http://www.jadedbeats.net) and they are worth the money.

I have Sennheiser HD-280 Pros which I got for my birthday in November, and I love them. The isolation is great, the music sounds great, and they're pretty damn comfy too. Before them I had a set of HD-497s but I wanted something closed.

The cans on top of my Shuttle.

The bummer is that with a Shuttle as my main rig I've only got one PCI slot... I want an M-Audio Revo or something else Envy24-based but I'm hesitant to get rid of the wifi card (although I don't really use it at home, it's handy at LANs and such). Maybe I'll trade it out. We'll see.

Questions, while I'm at it:
1. Using my onboard sound (Realtek ALC650), would it be worth amplifying my HD-280 Pros? I imagine not, but if yes, what amp?
2. Would it be worth moving to a dedicated soundcard (Envy24-based most likely) and amplification?

I'm still pretty new to this nice headphone business.

Just a little 'ol set of Sony MDR-G52's for now. My BA735 Boston Acoustics speakers keep me happy when in need of more bass.

USB WiFi. I've got one. It works just fine.

PN15 works great :D
Too bad shipping across border cost more than the actual card :(

This is more of question than a comment but isn't the Grace 901 Amp a reference amp? Doesn't reference amps/headphones etc primarily for accuracy needed by sound mixing, engineer or musicians rather than listening. And finally, if I understand that correctly are using it for those needs or was there another reason for using a reference amp?

Also, I am eventually going to upgrade to more serious headphone amp and I am collecting links, reviews, articles and feedback, etc.

1) Higher end headphones require more power to drive.

2) Headphone jacks on your sound card and stereo equipment provide little power. PC speakers often have built in amps.

3) Fills out the sound, provides more depth and texture.

I cant give a good explination of why yo amp your cans, but I can say I have an ipod and some etymotic ER-4S cans and when i added an amp, i added a whole new side to the music, and i only added a $35 cmoy amp.... now i'm looking to upgrade to a PIMETA or something in the $100-200 range. Any suggestions anyone?

Ya, I am on a similar quest. I am looking to make my Go Vibe for portable use only and upgrade to home amp for my PC. My budget is more in the 200-400 range although I am thinking of stretching it a bit for a Woo 3 (either that or a Gilmore Lite). A couple of suggestions but by no means extensive. Speaking of which I would love to suggests too!:D

How are those E2C's? I'm thinking about picking up a pair for my Dell DJ

i love my e2c, very good for portable, unamped use. very unobtrusive aswell

What I really hate about these Logitech's headphones is too short mic. They barely reach my mouth

I've found it OK so far. The mic is strong enough for my tastes, kinda glad I don't have to suck on it (!) to get sound to be honest ;) Now, them not fitting right if I'm wearing a cap IS a problem.

??? What? They're better? Do they have subs? Don't think so. For the money tho I know Sennheiser rules but I'm talkin 5.1 surround headphones.

Did I miss the part where anyone claimed there headphones were better yet? This thread appears to be a place for people to post their headphones, but I may be wrong.

Here are my updated 'picts':
Pimeta (Built by Mister X):

No no. Not flaming just promoting these headphones as THE BEST for gaming. They are UNREAL. I never heard such good low low bass out of a headset before. A tank FEELS like a tank. Gunfire FEELS like gunfire etc. :D

I can't see the soldering job you did on those buffers like that. :p
I WANT SOME AMP PRON! :D
