Here is the link to the spec sheet on the TV: http://product.samsung.com/SamsungUSA/PRODUCT/20051007/DLP%201080p%20spec%20flyer%20(78)%20-%20HLR5078W,5678W,6178W,7178W.pdf

From page 4: "These models can display the full 1920 x 1080p High Definition format. All HD video is converted to 1080p for a picture with higher contrast ratios, better brightness and improved perceived resolution, particularly for content that was produced in the native 1920 x 1080 pixel count format."

man, nobody wants to talk about my 360? heh

So 480i DVD content.. thats not condisered HD video is it? I know some people say 480p is HD video, but some people disagree. I guess a DVD player that is using progressive output would do 480p and the TVs internal scaler would up convert 480p to 1080p.
One of the only things that matters with me...
OTA HDTV that is 1080i would be scaled too 1080p. That would rock! haha

ha, what about your 360 :p
I would rather talk about your 1080p TV. Anyways invite me over so i can see CSI and Xbox 360 in 1080p ;)

^ I would rather wait anyway. Your still right though. I think having a core system was a good play to MS catering to two income brackets. Even still its a ripoff if you have the money. The Hard Drive and wireless controller will set you back 150 any way so the core system would be 50 dollars more with a HDD and wireless controller bought seprately. I am going for a premium next week wish me luck!

Don't forget the HD Componant pack, or the remote. Those are an additional $70

I also have Samsung's up-converting DVD player. It upconverts DVD to 720p and does a pretty good job. I guess internally the TV is further upconverting it to 1080p. DVDs look really good.

I'll tell you that so far I am using the 360 more for Media Center than anything else. I've downloaded a lot of HD media from a.b.hdtv which plays flawlessly through the Media Center.

Yeah, i'm still in the 90's with a 480p DVD player :( haha
I want a Denon DVD player that also upconverts DVD to 720p/1080i but it cost $600 and i can't afford to spend $600 on a stand alone DVD player.

Congrats on having a nice 360 to playback HD.

just buy a 360?

Also the quality of the unit itself..
Also, for Multichannel audio such as SACD/DVD-A.. Maybe Xbox 360 can play multichannel audio? Well; where are the 5 RCA outputs for Mulichannel audio on the Xbox 360? There isn't any..
If you want a pure digital signal going to your pure digital display.. DVI or HDMI would be needed.. Not component video as the Xbox 360 has.. ?

Also, somebody might have Denon gear already and would like to match brands.

hmm DVI and HDMI outputs..
Denon DVD-2910B
DVD/CD/SACD/DVD-Audio player

Not a receiver... its a DVD player.. Its a high end DVD player.
(although its not Ultra High End)

1 optical; which nice DVD players have more than one?
(With Up-Conversion & Both Mulitchannel audio formats)

Or; what cheap/mid range DVD players have more than 1 optical?

all that just ot watch a flick..

hmm i would say this.. but its not really 100% correct:

dual 7800GTX in SLi - $1k?
AMD64 FX-57- $1k?
2GB ?? brand of RAM $250?
21" widescreen PC monitor $700?

$2,950 just to play PC games and to post on hardforum & other forums and to do your school & business work & to chat with friends & to download random stuff?

.. Why, just go buy a Dell Pent. 4 for $500.. why spend $2,950.

But... (thats not correct.. so this post is stupid) haha

` Sorry for getting all off topic! `

Edit No. 7: Wheres your entertainment room picture HDBox.
I'll try and resize them tonight.

Great setup, the only thing that pisses me off about the 1080p sets is that none of them actually accept a 1080p signal because the companies are still deciding on a DRM system for it. It just upconversts lower resulutions to 1080p, so when the ps3 comes out with it's 1080p games and the next gen dvds with (mayby) 1080p movies then your tv can't play them. I dont have a nice setup to show off yet but I do have B&W DM604 S3 speakers coming in and I am also getting the HP MD5880n 58" DLP which is the only tv to support a 1080p input via HDMI. I'll have pics when I get it all together.

Maybe I'm just a complete nub, but shouldn't the surround speakers be surrounding you?

Or do you have more speakers not seen in the pictures?
The surrounds aren't pictured and are to the rear of the room. Those are the Front Left, Center, and Right Channels...

Shouldn't the left and right be further apart? Too get the surround effect? (plus it looks cooler)

For a better effect, yes, they should be placed further apart from the center speaker....unless they are dynamic range surround sound mimicking speakers, then no, they are fine.

The left and right front speakers have built in toe-in of about 10-15 degrees (you can see it in the photos of the room).

From M&K's website: "One reason this left and right placement is NOT very critical is because of the inherent design of M&K speakers, the horizontal sweet spot is VERY LARGE. That is to say the acceptable listening area in front of the speakers where you will hear the critically best sound is very wide."

Following M&K's formula for speaker placement, they are correctly spaced for our room as well as the downward angle.

I think the TV sort of creates an illusion in the photos where everything else looks very small or close together. In reality, the front speakers are centered 32" apart.

so planet would you say DLP is better than plasma or LCD. I am about to get a new HDTV and have been torn between plasma and LCD. Probably doesn't matter what I go with.

I have enjoyed our DLP but we have had some problems. For one, you just HAVE to have a UPS attached to it as if the power cuts out when the bulb is hot, it can seriously damage some of the mechanics such as the color wheel... which we had to have replaced on my last set due this very reason. This is probably true or any type of projection TV.

I honestly didn't even look at Plasma when we bought as there was such a premium on them... but I imagine they are getting cheaper every day... although after talking with several repairmen, Plasma screens apparently slowly lose their charge and there is no way to "recharge" them when they do.

I was sold on DLP over LCD after visiting Texas Instruments booth at CES a few years ago. LCD projection TVs project this very high intensity light through the LCDs which, over time, will lose contrast. DLPs reflect light and will not lose contrast.

If you dont mind changing the color wheel every 3 years.....$$$$

I played the 360 on a giant ass TV the first day it came out, I think a 60 or 65" DLP with surround sound. I can't imagine playing on boogies.

Lucky SOB! :p

My 50" Sony projection lcd is patiently waiting to be united with a 360. Hopefully sooner than later.

I know this is off-topic but is that the kdf-e50a10? We're looking at one right now and I have to say from what I have seen that thing is sweet, that is to say, oober-HAWT. :p
