Post Best 3.0C overclocks

he has a promie mach two...as he said, thats not very good:) . Most 3.0C's should hit 4.3-4.5ghz on that cooler....wonder what mine would do since I'm at 4ghz with 30C water and 3.95 on air:D

you didn't see it cuz he didn't post it. Only reason I know he has it is because its for sale in the FS/T forum:D

Hey StrongBadia, if you are so intent on hitting 4ghz, it would probably be cheaper just to buy a prommie mach 1 for around $400 than to keep buying and selling cpus. That mach 1 is pretty much a guaranteed 4ghz.

When I get a job I will go for with very highend water or a prommie, but right now I just don't have the cash. I'm also thinking of either a silverstone nimiz or a pc70.

what kind of board do you have?
maybe you should switch out your board with someone you know to rule it out as a weaklink.

As said, it is on a Mach II. Ive seen newer 3.0c's doing 4gig on air, I can barely do that with this Mach II. Its one of the very first 3.0c's, and the first ones usually dont overclock well, bad steppings.

Ive been really tempted to sell it, and get another 3.0c, or maybe even a 3.0e.

And yeah, check out my FS thread with my Mach II.. great deal for someone!

IC7-G. This same board and same ram ran my 2.4 at 267fsb for months, so I know thats not the limiting factor.

3.0 @ 3.45

SL6WU

I didnt want to push more since I was having heating problems

I've got a question... b/c I might try taking someone's laptop apart if they'll let me next time they come in town....

They have a Dell Inspiron 9100 (just bought it)

I think its a desktop processor. It says "3.0GHz with HT".

So I assume its probably the desktop 3.0C
but maybe cherry picked for lower voltage/cooler running.

If so it may OC very well. I'm going to run CPU-Z on it when he comes in town.. before I even attempt to take it apart. The problem is I'm worried thats its not a standard flip chip 478. (maybe soldered or micro) or it might be just a regular old 3.0C (nothing special)

Anyone know for sure, whats in there?

I just got my new cpu. Priming right now at 250fsb stock volts.

SL6WU
12 Caps
FPO/Batch: L349B504
Pack Date: 03/12/04

Wish me luck, this is already better than my last cpu's. None of them could get into windows at 3.75 with stock volts :D .

Edit: Crashed after a few minutes at stock volts. Bumped it to 1.6 and prime is lasting much longer. This could be a winner  .

BSOD at 3.9ghz in windows with 1.7v. I will keep this chip until I can get better cooling. 267fsb causes my computer to stop posting. I have to reset the cmos manually to get it to come back up.

EDIT: Just to be sure, I set the ram to 5:4 and still no dice. I did notice that my vcore plummets at full load. Up to .06 at times.

give it 1.75v. Its not gonna hurt it.....Ive run up to 1.8bios 1.86 in windows on mine with water.

3.0@ 3.6G

Batch # 3349A845 Costa Rica

Pack Date 2/19/04

CPU 1.55V

39 degrees at idle 56 degrees max under heavy load.

Absolutely stable at 3.6

System in Signature

Received this CPU from New Egg and thought "Oh Crap, it's from Costa Rica. I hope it can do at least 3.2." Pleasantly surprised that it gave a semi-decent OC. Isn't stable above 3.6MHz no matter what voltages, or ram settings are used.

What I found testing DDR: Stable with the Corsair 3200LLPT 2-3-2-6 at 1:1 to 220MHz, and at 240MHz at 5:4. I bought the OCZ 4000 LL 2.5-4-4-7 Gold to see if I could go higher. After testing I realized that benchies showed that the Corsair at 5:4 is virtually equal to the OCZ at 1:1. Relaxed timings didn't help. The OCZ does allow me to boot windows at 249MHz 1:1 but it will crash. Should have saved my $$ since the CPU is still limited it to 240MHz.

I keep telling people that decent 3200 is all you need. That the ratios are there for a reason and you get about the same performance at a given FSB. But usually the ratio's let you reach higher FSB's.

Could my motherboard really be limiting me. It seems like I'm stuck at almost exactly 250fsb no matter the voltage. At 257 fsb with 1.725v I get a cryptic blue screen. At 1.75v at 260fsb I get a hardware error in Prime 95.

Something is limiting me, I can't even do 254 fsb with 1.7v. This is frustrating.

its probably just the cpu strong
my 3.0c can go into windows at 4.1 1.7volts but I see the temps just going up and up till 68c then click it turns off due to the auto temp shut down. Does anyone know if the zalman is better than the pal8942 I mean a lot better

It just seems strange that 3 processors all crapped out at exactly 250fsb, with exactly the same settings.

I think it maybe the ram. Everyone that's getting the 3.9 OCs have very high overclocking PC3200 or under RAM.

Reading this thread is refreshing since I just bought my 3.0C yesterday from newegg. I had a hard time doing while I was trying to gather all my data from "other" forums that just didnt feel like [H]ome. I was really shaky about it not being able to talk it over here. But, after reading this, Im stoked!

mines on air idle 36c load 51c 1.65v I got it to 4.1ghz but the temps get hot fast and shuts down
oops already posted

See sig.
Mine is 100% stable (Prime95 stable) at 3.9 GHz, vCore at 1.55.
(260 FSB)
Ram is at 1:1, 2,5-7-4-4
I can get to 265 fsb (3.975 GHz) without problems, but temps go up and 3DMark03 craps out.

Have not tried with higher voltage, as temps are already quite high at 265 fsb with 1.55V.

This is SL6WK with 30 caps, pack date 3/9/04.

sl6wk 3.0@4.0 1.70 ic7 max3 packdate 03/02/04 from pc supply source. this is on air using a thermalright cooler and tornado.

mines a d1 revison 30 caps this is my first p4 rig and im pretty impressed, and to get a great oc on air is nice

There seems to be very few SL78Z 3.0c chips here. Are they hard to come by?

I don't really know the codes, are you guys using M0's?
3.0C are only D1 revisions the M0 is only 2.4C and 2.8C but the newer D1 look like a M0 on the bottom with all the caps and stuff but in cpu-z it reads it as a D1

SL6WK Malay
2004 week3
IC7max MB
3.0C @ 3.7Ghz. @ 1.55v. on stock air HSF

PS
FS also, $225 =)

it's the 2x512 sticks of RAM
try 2x256 of single sided memory
On my system, I had your ram, and 2 sticks of the same but 2x256, and I could get + 10-15fsb w/ the 2x256

Its not a very good chip, I have had it since last May. The first ones usually arent the best.

You guys make me cry...

I'm not willing to sacrifice 512mb of ram :) . Besides, my 2.4c went well beyond 260fsb on the same ram. This rams rated atleast that high anyway.

That is a very good overclock on air. My 3.0c @ 4.0 won't boot unless it's at around 10 c on the core.
