Just thought I'd start a thread and get a general idea of how the 3.0C's are overclocking.
Please post your:
1. Overclock specs
2. model number sl6wk, sl6wu etc. and pack date listed on the retail box.
3. BIOS settings

and your rig setup if it's not already in your sig.

Oh, preferably stable overclocks that have been stress tested thoroughly.

Thanks

3.6 GHz on my 3.0C
FSB: 239MHz (for some reason it gets bumped to ~240 in windows)
Cooling: Stock w/ AS5
Vcore: 1.565v
RAM: OCZ PC3700EL 2x256MB (I know...OCZ)
Timings: 2.5-4-4-7
Vdimm: 2.9v
Stepping: SL6WK
CoO: Maylasia
FPO/Batch #: L348B044
Pack Date: 02/26/24
Misc: MIB (read: PAT) enabled, divider at 1:1

For really long gaming sessions I lower the FSB to 233 (stock for the RAM). I've had random restarts after ~6 hrs of prime95.

I've also got a water cooling project in the works, as well as some Kingston HyperX PC4000 on the way.

3.0C@ 3.96

sometimes I also run 3.75ghz with ram 1/1 500mhz 2-2-2-5

SL6WU
Pack Date: 3/19/04
FPO/BATCH: L405A736

Max overclock: 3.5 with 1.75v

I can't wait to get this piece of shit out of my life. I have already sold it. I'll be buying my 4th or 5th (I've lost track) 3.0c this week. I'm trying to get to 4ghz. If my next chip hits 3.76 it will be my last. I'm sick of swapping out cpu's.

I will be happy if I can get to 3.4GHz. I should hope that I can once I install my Zalman.

What did you get with your other 4 chips?

SL6WK - 30 Caps - 3/XX/04 - Q4 - 3.76ghz at 1.65v

SL6WK - 12 Caps - 2/XX/04 - L34 - 3.76ghz at 1.7v

SL6WK - 12 caps - 3/XX/04 - L35 - 3.3ghz at 1.75v

My luck has been not so great.

just wondering, but I've pushed my vcore up to 1.65 and it won't break 240FSB. When I set it there it boots into windows and is fine for a while and resets giving a blue screen saying hardware error. That doesn't mean the cpu's locked out at 3.6 does it?

Locked out? You may have reached the cpu's limit at 3.6 at that voltage. Raising the vcore to 1.7 probably won't be enough to make it stable at that speed if you're getting blue screens. It's worth a shot though.

1.7 will get me 3.6 @240FSB but pushing it farther gives me random restarts and hangs sometimes. Ack. I guess I'm maxed out at 3.6 as I'm not sure I want to push the voltage on the board any higher cause it tends to stray just a bit.
hmmm...so I'm assuming it's nothing else in my rig that's holding me back and it's just that this is the limit?
does anyone know whether it's each new generation of 3.0c's get better with overclocking or vice versa or whether it's flat out luck of the draw between all of them.

hey, maybe I'll re-silver my cpu cause I may have put more than 1/2BB on my first install. Think that has anything to do with it?

I don't know man 700MHz for free isn't bad. I'd be so lucky to get 3.76 aircooled.

SL6WK - 30 Caps - 3/XX/04 - Q4 - 3.76ghz at 1.65v is pretty good in my book. It's not an extreme overclock but it's a healthy one.

Alot of times my luck with overclocking has never been really good. I couldn't get my 2.4C to go over 2.6GHz.

Like you said, a free 750 mhz isn't bad at all. Chips that go 4 ghz+ without phase change cooling (especially 3.0C) are rare finds.

I can get into windows xp pro 4.1ghz@1.7v but then the temps get out of control really fast and shuts down. I have it at 255fsb3.82ghz I wish I hade money for a vapochill I know I could get probably 4.5 out of this I am on air by the way pal8942 which does a good job

D1 stepping
pack date 3/8/04
sl6wk
batch:0401a463

I got these old corsair sticks that do 440mhz glad I kept them
even at 400 mhz I get 5516 mem scores 2-3-3-6 timings

Maybe something else is limiting you to 3.76 since you had 2 chips max out at the same exact speed. (mobo, ram/ratio, PSU, etc)

edit: just noticed you had a 550w PSU.. so its obviously not that... but could be the power circuitry on the mobo or some other random thing.

how much you want for your chip.

that extra FSB of a 3.0 would be better than your 3.2!

If I could find a 2.8C that would do 4.0GHz (on air! :)) that would be my dreamchip! at 5:4 ratio with some EL / LL that system would scream!!

My 3.0 only did 3.5 on air. With phase-change it does 4.0 stable. I'm going to go for some lower temps soon, I think it still has some room left, it will boot at over 280 FSB.

I had my 3.0ghz at 3.75 for a while with a 92mm Vantec Tornado, but it was a bit too loud. I swapped the tornado for a Panaflo and my temps went up quite a bit. I cant get over 3.5gz @ 1.65V without it overheating. I tried reseated the HSF with AS5 and am getting the same temps. Right now I'm running idle at 47.5C and load @ 55C. I guess it's time for some watercooling :D

3.0C@ 3.45ghz
FSB: 230MHz
Cooling: Swiftech MCX4000 w/92mm Panaflo
Vcore: 1.55V
RAM: Corsair PC4000PRO (Hynix)

how high do u guys have the DRAM voltage and the AGP voltage on those overclocks? What's the secret?

i didn't touch my AGP voltage
but i had my ram volts as high as my board allowed 2.85
and the secret is getting lucky, or handpicking your cpu

Handpicking doesn't guarantee anything unless it's a tray chip. Buying a boxed cpu is a toss up. By all accounts, my SL6WU should have been a winner...

I wish we had frys here, but I still wouldn't shop there. We have a 9.25% sales tax which keeps me from buying anything here.

but buying tons of cpus and returning them to fry's because they won't overclock well drives prices up. why can't they just sell cpu for overclockers? I guess it's all part of the thrill when u can hit that high overclock.

my 3.0C was at 3.8 @ 1.6~1.65 cant remember

with a zalman

42C idle
53C load dual prime

now i have it running 3.2 in my fathers computer since when i went to build his computer i bought him a 3.0E by mistake.

now im stuck with it:rolleyes:

damn that sucks...but it's not that bad...just a bit slower than northwood, and the heat. nothing too bad not like you bought a 2.4 400mhz bus and thought it was a 2.4C
did you clock that prescott yet?

Pumping up the MHz w/ my processor too.. btw just dropped by in this thread to know a little more about people running a 3.0C @ 3.5 GHz. Can you please post your PCMark02 and 04 Scores (preferably w/ a 9800 Pro @ 9800XT and/or 9800XT @ stock speeds.) Also can you post your 3dmark01SE and 3dmark03 scores.

Thanx in advance!

I had a 3.0c that did 3.8 (250FSB).

I didn't push it further; memory was out of spec....I should have bought something more than Corsair XMS3200...but...oh well.

that, and it was a first run CPU...I bought it when it was still at $400.

I'm running at 4.45ghz. PCMark04=5238. 3Dmark=6769. Look in my sig for system specs

Just ordered one from excaliberpc. I requested an SL78Z and they didn't have any, so I asked for an SL6WU and it was no problem. Here's to hoping for better luck.

4125Mhz
1.65v
275 FSB
IC7 MAX 3
2x512 PC4000@5:4 2.8vdimm

Its not a very good chip, I have had it since last May. The first ones usually arent the best.
