It seems at uni I only have one month's rent to pay this semester, which means i can spend a little money somewhere.

I've calculated about £400 I will have aside, so I'm either thinking computer upgrade or laptop. Currently I have:

Athlon XP 3200+
1gb DDR 3200
9800 Pro
200gb SATA

etc...

It can be a bit of a drag taking my computer back home, hence why I might get a laptop. The only problem is, if i get a laptop i dont think I would use it that much other that doing stuff in bed / taking it home on the 3/4 major breaks i get to go home at.

So what do you guys think? Or is my system fine for a while yet.. I kind of feel left out with this 64bit lark

David

Maybe you should just upgrade ur processor. Like to an AMD 64 3500+ Venice or something. What do you use the comp. for most?

That proc. is what im getting for my build over the summer.

he can't get an a64 without a new mobo.

personally? i think the barton will last you a bit longer yet.

That's pretty much my g/f's deskop w/a 6600gt and it still hangs in there esp. When me and her play D3 and Brothers in Arms online. New video card I guess.

If your in college I'd get the laptop though. It's helping me out a lot esp. when i come home from work and the only thing i can think of is my bed i'd just lay down and get some study time done while watching tv instead of coming home laying down and just watching tv.

Well the problem is that I only go home usuaully about 3 or 4 times a year (discluding odd weekends) so im not sure that it would be worth the money.

Now I have this odd (for H-forum) idea that 400 GBPs might buy U:

A vacation on KOS
150 Pints
A nice PDA

point is that Ure still ok off - U can always save the money as well but remembering my Uni days that is probably not an option.

That's a good setup and you should probably wait a while. Maybe grab an nForce 4 board, move over your RAM and hard disk, grab an A64 3200+ Socket 939 processor, and change up to a 6600GT or X800XL or 6800GT later this year. Once AMD's dual core chips come out, prices on single-core A64s will drop across the board.

If gaming is your thing, then a laptop just isn't going to cut it unless you want to spend big bucks. I'd think about getting a "small" case. Maybe something like an Antec SuperLanboy or something like that. I had one and it was pretty light with carrying straps. When I sold it to my brother I bought a Chieftec Dragon on sale for $20 and the thing weighs like 60 lbs with my computer in it :).
