I have a PCIexpress motherboard....it has a x16 slot and a x1 slot.

My Graphics cards in the x16 at the moment. Whats the use of the x1 slot?

the 1x slot is bacicly going to replace the PCI slots, all PCIe slots are backward and forward compatable(16x in 1x or 1x in 16x and so on). uses include a slot for another vid card(if it has a reomvable univesal back or its a 1x card), SATA cards, Networking for future 10/10000(if they ever do go that high. PPUs, ect.

about 1/2 a second of googling to find PCIe cards guys. there are lots of things to stivk in there now. matrox even has a PCIe 1x VGA card (it was on the front page)
this one did make me chuckle tho. i guess if you have an old serial device and a micro board or somthing with no pci's left. an older VFD maybe?

Woohoo! Finally!
But.. where's the 1x 4-port 16650? (Yes, I use many serial ports. It's called remote gdb debugging.)

(edit) HOORAY!

Aside from links I'll be perusing from this thread, I've only seen the Matrox card, and a TV Tuner for the PCI-e 1x slots. I expect the next cards from creative will be PCI-e though, and hopefully we'll start seeing some USB/FireWire cards, soon, too. As long as they keep at least 1-2 PCI slots on mobos, I'll be happy.

Allow me to raise your expectations.

Still nothing of use for mid-range enthusiasts, though. SCSI is overkill, and SATA2 is already coming onboard. I need PCI-e soundcards! :) And a TV tuner, eventually, but my TVWonder PCI will do for now.

I have 3 PCI cards (TV Wonder, Envy24 card, H2O pump relay), and the new mobo I want only has 2 slots. :(

Powercolor makes a TV Tuner based on the Theater 550 chipset in PCIe x1. Can swap out the TV Wonder for that.

I mentioned that one - but it's still on the expensive side. My TVWonder was $50 before a rebate.

Yes, this is a big problem for me too. In my case I need slots for audio DSP cards (synthesizer stuff), but with today's mobos 2 PCI slots is pretty common--and only 1 slot if you go for a quiet graphics cooler. That's ridiculous.

I want deluxe-featured mobo with no SLI/Crossfire and at least 3 usable PCI slots. Any ideas?
