How much of a difference will this be? I play 1680x1050 for now. It'll be higher when I am able to get bigger monitor.
Budget is really tight, What I posted is actually over budget but may be able to squeeze. Or buy part here part there. Starting with vid and cpu.
thoughts on how to save some money? and still be in the i7 range?

Your mobo and cpu is fine, upgrade your gpu to a 5850 or 5870 and you will be maxing at 1680x1050.

At 1680x1050? Not much of a difference to justify the costs for the CPU, mobo, and RAM. Even if it's a MC deal.

Just upgrade your current video card to either the HD 5850 or HD 5870 and you'll be set.

GF's son's computer died. So he needs one, and he's about to have his first kid. So money is really tight for him. Insurance is buying the i7 system for me. Electric co overvolted my house.
268 volts in when they were here. So it's free money so to speak. I'll get a great upgrade, cpu vid all of it. And then he gets my old one. lookin at the 5850 video card. All I posted was agreed upon from Company. I'll be getting a check soon......:p

Hmm in that case, not much you can do to lower costs of that setup.

Yah, for gaming and general use, the mobo/cpu/ram won't make much of a difference -- it's the vidcard upgrade that will make a noticeable difference when gaming. Since it's free money, you shoulda slapped in an SSD. :p
