I didn't know where to put this Thread, this forum doesn't really have a General Area....
I Am thinking about doing a Major upgrade to my current System. Mainly for Folding and Crysis. So prehaps I already know the answer to this question but Ill ask anyways. I have 900 to 1000 USD to do an Upgrade. Ill be keeping the following Parts.
Power supply - Enermax 535 watt (36 Amps on combined 12V rail)
Moniter - 19" Viewsonic Widescreen
Keyboard
Mouse
Optical Drives - Sony CD-RW and NEC DVD-RW
harddrive - Western Digital 120 GB SATA (Though I might buy a larger one with 16MB Cache because this one is not in great shape SMART Wise)
Sound card - Audigy 2 ZS
Case - Silverstone TJ-05
Fans - Two 80MM On RAM, Tornado on CPU, one 120MM Exhuast, one 120MM Intake, two 80MM Intake (On Video card), one 80MM Exhuast (opposite Side)
Artic Silver 5

So basically All Ill need is
Motherboard
RAM
Video card
CPU
Heatsink (For overclocking)
So my main use will be gamming and Folding so this is what I have came up with on my own If I were to buy right now.
ASUS P5B E or Gigabyte 680i
E6400
eVGA 8800GTS 640MB
GSkill 2 GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 667
Scythe ninja Heatsink with My current Tornado as the Fan.

Now, some concerns I have:
1. If I build now, should I Buy VISTA, will it be compatible with all my past parts and their drivers? Or should I wait for SP1 or SP2 and Driver conflicts to be resolved?
2. Will Crysis come out with a DX9 Version So I can just reuse my XP Home Disc?
3. I have many many programs, will they be compatible with VISTA? Is there some list somewhere that has all programs that work and do not work with VISTA? Such as, Winamp, Vlc, Spywareblaster, Spybot S & D, Everest Ultimate editon, trillian, Opera, Firefox, etc etc.
4. Will my current power supply be enough for this upgrade? I think so??
5. I have alot of warez stuff, all my music, videos, tv shows, what about VISTA's piracy/security features will this affect my torrenting or Limewiring?
So In short, I think Ill wait 4-5 Months for crysis to be released and patched and for VISTA to get SP1 out. Just save my money??

Any thoughts or opinions?

thanks For any thought...

You are wise beyond your years, unless you have a need for Vista, guickly get an OEM copy of XP pro with an upgrade coupon before they are gone. I am sure a lot of people have not had issues, but very few of them post here. I have installed and run every copy of Windows since 1.0 and they all sucked for the first 6 months (and some for a long time after, some have never stopped sucking).

If you do go Vista check your printer, scanner, mouse, usb devices, every darn thing you have plugged in or might buy in the the next year for drivers.

I really don't want to go Vista for alot of reasons. But I will have to if Crysis is released in DX10 Only...... I think Ill wait and see what happens, Thanks for you advice.

Ill probably be building once the first Patch is released for crysis... And Does anyone know if Crysis will be compatible with XP Pro and VISTA. So Like I said a DX9 And DX10 version?

1. This isn't my First fourm. Its my Third, I have 3.950 Posts @ Overclockersclub and 4,150 posts @ Tech-forum, I view Tomshardware and anadtech (Sp?) sites often as well.. But I value Hardforums opinions more than I do tech-forums for obvious reasons...
