Porn World Using RIAA Tactics

You things are getting bad when even the porn industry is stooping to the RIAA’a level.

In the past few weeks, massive numbers of alleged anonymous copyright pirates have been sued. It seems one adult entertainment studio after another is filing complaints against John Doe defendants. Just yesterday, for example, three more lawsuits were filed on behalf of three different companies -- Hard Drive Prods, Lightspeed Media and Millenium TGA. Each is suing 100 nameless defendants accused of stealing copyrighted audio-visual works.

They'll probably fare much better with settlements than the RIAA though.

"Sir, you are in court for copyright infringement of... Big Wet Asses 8. How do you plead?"

Does anyone find it amusing all these fucks are from the same county in Illinois?

The plaintiffs in these cases surely see this as a potentially effective tool against the piracy problem. Adult entertainment companies, in particular, likely see the benefit of potentially exposing people who download, say, transgender porn.

LOL! Nice, so instead of them trying to win on the merit of downloading their intellectual property illegally, they are relying on people being embarrassed to win for them. They most certainly run in the same circles as the RIAA that's for sure.

Porn industry: You downloaded monkey sex, pay up or we go public

Dude: Ok, how much?

RIAA: You Downlaoded Celin Dion, pay up or we go public

Dude: Ok, How much?

I can see the similarities....

There's also Evan Stone in Texas, who has filed lawsuits against hundreds of alleged porn pirates

cue the Evan Stone trollface.

So rent a VPN service with a prepaid VISA card? Wow that was hard. Next problem please?

I hope the porn industry keeps doing this. It will piss the public off enough to get congress to reconsider the DMCA and copyright in general.

If these defendants don't pay up will they be delivered in a plain brown wrapper? :D

I'm going to have to plead the 5th on this one. However, I am interested in how far they are going to catch people.

very little of my porn actually embarrasses me. Hentai is in now right?

had a coworker get busted for torrenting a pron through work because he had it going over VPN inadvertantly. Fortunately our boss owns and let it go with only a quiet warning, even paying the small extortion fee.

Who feels the need to pirate pr0n when there are free to watch sites all over the interwebz...

Well at least porn is classier than VH1.

They work their employees to the bone.

Yeah, hope you can't get in trouble for watching streaming stuff. ;)

man wonder how much "someone" would get charged for 830gigs of dirty? got to be close to a 100mil.

Fuck. Got a letter from Verizon yesterday, I'm included in this fucker's lawsuit on behalf of Millenium TGA who specialize in shemale porn.

It's froom a file downloaded in October. I stopped downloading shortly after when empornium and puretna went down, now I just watch on the streaming sites. But, it's too late for me.

Not sure yet what I'm going to do. I think I'll try and file to squash the subpoena based on the personal jurisdiction law. Then he would have to file individually against me. And then, hopefully by then things will change and they'll decide not to go after us.

I guess I could cop to it and settle, apparently they shoot for around $3,000 per case. But then, that's just for this one file, from this cone company. Still leaves me open to other companies' lawsuits. $3,000 to make it all go away forever? yeah i could probably swing that. But $3,000 for each one if there are more? no way.

He's banking on people being embrassed about the porn but I'm not really. My roommate knows we joke about it all the time (she's female).

It feels like extortion, blackmail, and harassment however. I would gladly subscribe to their website for a few years as an amends. That, I think is fair and customer friendly. Suing the fuck off of them, extorting them through humiliation and the threat of exposure is just bad business.

There, fixed it for you....

Who the duck watches shemale poem is question 1?
Who downloads porn is question 2?

Fuck* damn droid fixed it into duck.

I'm not sure if you're serious or not, but you sound serious.

Most of the mass lawsuits will be dismissed: http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/...p2p-porn-lawsuit-kneecaps-copyright-troll.ars

The smaller ones will be easier to file, and these lawsuits with only 100 or so Doe's seem to be small, but I'm not sure what will happen.

Verizon may have sent you a letter, but does that mean that Verizon will relinquish your personal information? I use Verizon as well, and I was under the impression that they are a bit stubborn when it comes to releasing information, but they WILL occasionally send you letters to inform you of accusations (I've never received such a letter, but I know of others who have).

That said, it seems unlikely that you'd get tagged for an additional lawsuit...

This business model of mass lawsuits is quite ridiculous. I wonder if they even verify whether or not the potential infringer downloaded the entire file (a workable copy - which is then generally a lower-quality rip, and NOT a copy)? The lawyers representing the porn industry don't seem to be experienced or professional WRT IP.

If we can be accused simply by temporarily entering a swarm, well... I guess I could reasonably expect a lawsuit as well. I've done that several times...

Thanks for the intelligent response. I am serious. The docket I'm included in says it's Millenium TGA vs Does 1-800 (Does meaning John Does). I assume that means it's against 800 people. But, Steele seems to have filed many of these, each one limited to under 1,000 users apparently to prevent the ISP from claiming they can't comply with the subpoena because of the workload.

Verizon's letter says if I do not respond to them within 30 days to notify them that I have filed a motion to squash the subpoena they are required to hand over the account information.

I read that on ars about the dismissal of several cases but it looks like the one I'm included in was filed after those dismissals, on 12/31/2010.

I also just got this in the mail today. From Comcast though saying I need to submit something or else they will release my information. Just when I thought life couldn't get any worse I have this waiting on my doorstep. I think I'm just gonna let it go. Let them sue me for the money I don't have
