Poor peformance with 6800Gt

ok guys i installed my 6800gt, expecting a big huge performance boost, but it doesnt really seem that way. I scored 10k on 3dmark 03 at stock gT speeds, and 11k @ 400/1100. I fired up jointops, joined a 100 plyer server, and got like 20 fps, ut 2k4, maxed out at 1024x768, same thing bout 20-30 fps. I have the 61.77 drivers intalled, i didnt install the CD thing, im thinkin maybe i should do that , or unless i dont need to. Everything looks right to me, agp texture accleration is on, aa and aF r manually turned off. Im stumped. MY geforce 3 ti 500, didnt seem that much slower to me.

Seems like a cpu limitation, what cpu do you have?What settings did you run both games at, also was AA/AF on?
 
I would reinstall drivers and maybe reinstall the os. Maybe your system still thinks you have a GF3.
 
is there other drivers i should use? I have the 61.77s, it doesnt say geforce 3 anywhere, should i install the EVGA disc?
 
i'd do this.
boot into safe mode
uninstall the drivers
run driver cleaner 3 with nvidia filter
boot into normal mode with net disconnected
reinstall 61.77 drivers
reconnect net

try performance again. Also check at resolutions higher than 1024x768, you could be cpu limited at that res, and make sure vsync is off (option in nv control panel).
 
doesnt seem that much, thats in doom 3, doom 3 stresses a lot harder than ut2k4.
 
also ill tell u guys a little story. Back in 2001, i installed a geforce 3 ti 500 onto my old p3 800 machine. It had a tnt2 in it. So when i upgraded to the geforce 3, it gave me a nice boost, i wont deny it, it would run q3a real good, halflife and its mods defintely ran a lot better. But what i dont understand, this is a much faster card, i score a lot better in 3dmark 03, but in games it didnt do much.
 
your processor is too slow, multiplayer games like joint ops and ut2k4 are extremely cpu dependent, you could put AA/AF on and youd still get the same fps most likely
 
ill end up upgrading my machine at the end of the year, ill o/c my p4 to 2.7 itll help somewhat.
 
I'm having the same problem...sort of. I had a 9700 pro but just got a 6800 GT. I ran the driver cleaner 3 program, just not in safe mode. But anyway, I can run CoD at 1600x1200 everything maxed out and it stays pegged at 60fps. Unreal 2k4 at 1600x1200 maxed out stays at like 70-80fps. Far Cry on the otherhand just stalls like a beast. Even worse than with the 9700 pro. I tried it at first with AA and AF maxed, bad lag. Turned them all off ran 1280x1024...20~ FPS. Dropped it down to 1024x768 where i had it with my 9700 pro...20~fps. Dropped down to 800x600 and even lower and even WORSE fps. WTF? Specs in sig.
 
same here, i just installed farcry, it runs like total shit, it runs like i have my geforce 3 installed. something is defintely wrong.

make sure you have patch 1.2 installed, 1.0 is all messed up

A lot of time when you upgrade from ATI driver cleaner just dont work and you have to reformat unfortunately to get rid of the ati crap

also make sure you have the farcry 1.2 patch installed

as for CoD, it seems to be capped at 60fps.

AMD 64 3200+
PNY 6800GT stock speeds (latest drivers)

1024 MB OCZ PC3200
430w Antec PSU

I just upgraded from a 9700 Pro and some games feel slower on this card than the 9700, although Doom 3 runs great.

I even reformated and its still the same low FPS in UT2K4.

I really wish I could figure this out
 
just installed updated chipset drivers, see what this does, oh btw does the application accelrator help? My PSU isnt sweating with this new video card, the voltages have stayed exactly the same, my idle temp for my 6800gt is about 58C, and im at ultra speeds.

UT2k4 runs somewhat better but not very much at all, why is it 3dmark 03 runs ok, i got 11k when i o/ced to ultra speeds, this cpu doesnt o/c for shit, it wont even run through @ 2.7, id have to either give it more vcore, or tone the memory timings down. Should i install the intel application accelrator or no?

i've got almost the same system, and I'm running at 1600x1200, 4xaa 8xaf, 60+ fps.

Run driver cleaner, and possibly do a reformat/reinstall if you can.

I did format and reinstall (said in original post) the first thing I did was install the drivers and the game after the install and its still the same crap. Even at 1024x768 the performance is the same as 1280x1024. It feels like something is holding it back, I wish I could figure it out.

Theres got to be SOMETHING Im missing that this isnt working right.
 
i dont get it, i ran driver cleaner, and NFR, and my games still run like shit. My games should be a substanial improvement, not a measley one. 3dmark 03 runs just fine i scored 11k on it, which is bout right with my specs.

I scored 11.5k on my 3dmark also, and my games are all shit as well. Hopefully we can figure it out.

What brand of card are you using?
 
evga 6800gt. Farcry runs a lot better with the 1.2 patch, and i turned the agp apreture size back up, on the training lvl though it drops to bout 30 fps with all the water and jungle.
 
I'm having the same problems and I'm going crazy trying to figure this out.

I have an Athlon XP 3000+ @ 2411 with 1gig pc2700ram and something is definitely holding me back more than it should be. I also have my 6800gt oc'd to 410/1.12.
According to the AMD tool my cpu is a 3700+.

In Doom 3, I can't get the framerate above 55fps.
@ 640x480 with LOW quality, I get 55fps in timedemo (ran 3 times discarding first 2)
@ 1600x1200 with ULTRA quality, I get 53fps in timedemo.
This is with no AA or AF.

According to Hardocp and Anandtech articles, I should definitely be getting higher framerates.

Also, with the same cpu, my 9700pro scored only 1000 points less in 3dmark2k1.
I'm only getting 16645 with the 6800gt and had 15408 with the 9700pro.

I started from a clean format, I have the latest chipset and vid card drivers.
Checked and rechecked all my bios settings.
AA and AF are set to application preference.
Is there some settings or something that I'm missing in nVidia' s drivers?

I can't think of what else could be wrong.
 
can anyone chime in what the heck is goin on here? It does run better, but something is holding me back i can run bf 1942 at 1600x1200 4xAA and 8xaf at 100fps. But my other games dont run well ut2k4, farcry, etc.
 
Are you guys running RAID arrays by chance?

Im trying to narrow down what the cause could be. So far it seems MOST people with the issue have Athlon 64's (not all though).

Im running a 430W Antec PSU with 2 Raptors in raid, 2 storage drivers, and 2 cd roms. I disconnected the 2 HDD's to see if it was a power issue and it still had the same problems.

One more thing, are you using the DVI out? I don't think that would make a difference, but you never know.
 
something is defintely wrong i only scored 14k in 3dmark 2001, i should be around 18 or so.

Application accelerator only works on Intel's own boards. Don't know what to tell you, something sounds off. What stepping model do you have on your 2.4B? I am assuming since it doesn't OC very well that it's a B0. I have a 2.4B stepping B0 at 2.86Ghz with VCore at 1.6V. Honestly I don't know how much it helps.

Do you have the latest chipset drivers installed? Something doesn't seem right if you are only getting 16000 in 3DMark01. Hell I get a 17000 with mine, see sig.

in UT2K4 I get on average 60-70fps @ 1280x1024 2x/8X

Farcry and Doom run really well at high settings (farcry using SM3.0)

my aquamark score was 62,948 & my 3d mark 03 was 10,000+ (using 61.21 drivers & DX9.0b)

I'm currently using 61.77 drivers and DirectX 9.0c Windows SP1

so you should be looking at similar scores...

That's the thing, my 3dmark score seems normal, but my games run like ass.

Yet in UT2004, I barely get 25 FPS with 2x, 8x at 1280x1024. I wish I knew what the hell was going on.
