I ran them in crossfire. Imagine the heat/noise I was getting in my office. Great GPU, HSF not so much. 290's were the last AMD cards I've owned. AMD has nothing for me now.

Has anyone checked the local Microcenter to see if they have the cards on the shelves/available yet? The Ti's, I mean. I know the 2080's are a plenty.

I had MSI R9 290 Gaming for a brief time and it did indeed pump out incredible amount of heat.

Same here. I had a pair of xfx Double D 290s in CFX - that's the last time I had an AMD gpu or a multi-gpu setup. Don't miss them at all.

Just a random thought of having Turing 1-2 years from now, when supply of Pascal runs out.

    Want 1080Ti performance? Get a 2080 for 800-900$

    Want 1080 performance? Get a 2070 for 600-700$.

If you're happy with 1070 performance, maybe they can sell you a 2060 at 400-500$.

Who knows when NV or AMD will release their next gen 7nm? They can keep feeding us Turing at these prices without any large performance increase to show for in current games.

One can argue about the 'new tech' in these GPUs, but until I see the benefit, these hold no value for me...

This is pretty much why you also never see prices drop when nvidia cards are EOL. Control over pricing.

They would sooner set the cards on fire than see them sell for a discounted price.

You can't blame them. Once you have a reputation for dropping prices you won't sell as many at MSRP because people will wait for the fire sales. Case in point is AMD.

I was going to make a Therapy Thread but I don't know how it would go over. I'm pretty much over ordered a 2080ti untill one pops up at Nowinstock :D
EVGA version even then I think I'm over it...

Well if someone ordered a card on the 20th of Aug. and have to wait until October its pretty mind numbing.

You know all the cards of that era, the 290, 290x, 780, 780ti and Titan all used over 200Watts of power and that there was a 50-60watt difference between best and worst. All 4 cards would heat up a room roughly the same.

The more days go by the more I feel like cancelling. The closer to 7nm we get. But I have a waterblock sitting on my shelf so...

We do need an owners thread. You know, for a month from now when we might actually have owners.

Not that you would notice in your room. Sorry. Both cards were dumping 200+ watts into your room. The Fan on the Nvidia card might have been keeping the card cooler than the one on the AMD card, but, the room is still been heated up the same amount. It's simple thermodynamics.

I'm going to buy a 2080 just went to load up my card I figure if it's a 2080ti or 2080 I won't miss it when 3000 series comes out in two years.
The EVGA cards seem to do better than the stock Nvidia cards I seen 10-15+ FPS in some games at 1440P it lags at 4k though due to lack of memory.

Having upgraded to a 34" ultrawide my 1080 doesn't cut it anymore. EVGA 2080 Ti XC Ultra should be here tomorrow.

I was going to get a discounted 1080ti to replace my 980ti, but ended up with a 2080 Founders Edition.

It’s fast but overpriced, and could use a few more GB of memory. The cooler looks and feels like a work of art though, and it fits in my NCASE M1.

With an 8086K at 5 GHz all cores, and 32GB of DDR4-3200, I’m getting between 135 to 150fps average in BF1, Sinai, at 1440p Ultra. Actually I locked it to 120FPS and it rarely drops below that. My 980ti, overclocked to 1.45GHZ, averaged about 90 FPS under the same settings.

I was going to go with a 2080 ti to replace my 1080 but went with a regular 2080 instead. I put figures from various reviews into a spreadsheet and it'll be about 45% faster than my current card, which was roughly the same increase I got when I went from my 980 to the 1080. I'm still at 1440p so the ti seemed overkill, and I generally knock a few options down a notch anyway (Shadows and AO, I'm looking at you!). I know I could've gotten a similar increase with a 1080 ti, but if DLSS becomes a thing the 1080 ti won't support it. I also don't have any plans to go 4K until the 144hz panels come WAY down in price - my current monitor is 165hz and once you've had that, 60hz isn't an option anymore. I'm going to use the money I save to put towards a 9900K and mobo early next year instead.

I just bought a 2080 light OC for $1099 CAD, which is basically NVIDIA.com's FE prices (Google says $799 USD = $1035 CAD)... to replace my GTX 980 SLI setup.

I thought it was a sensible price, because here are the local prices (all in Gigabyte Windforce OC for direct comparison):

1080: currently on sale for $620 CAD; did not go this route, because it would be a downgrade from what I have right now... unless I get 2x, but then that actually costs MORE than what I spent.

1080Ti: was on sale last week for $870 CAD, but everything has been gone this week... just token Aoruses remain for $1130 CAD *guffaws*

    2080: $1080 CAD

2080Ti: nothing arrived yet; pre-order pricing was projected at ~$1600 CAD

Vega 64 as an additional possibility: $900 CAD

Considering these options, I thought the 2080 made sense. I went with the Asus DUAL for +15MHz Gaming Mode / +30MHz OC Mode over the Gigabyte Windforce OC, for $20 CAD more. Now I just realised that it is Triple-Slot vs. Dual-Slot, so I will not be able to SLI-ing this one on my current mobo. Oh well.

I have seen the Vega 64 for 525 Euro. Pretty close to what launch price was and it was a custom Gigabyte OC card.

there is no point buying a 2000 series card IMO when you will see the 7nm chip come out in 2019 and path tracing is much better then ray tracing.

Count me in the camp who picked up a 1080 Ti on the secondary market. I just can't with this 20 series. They offer pathetic generational performance gains if they were priced traditionally. With this crack house pricing, it's almost comical.

It is time for my normal GPU upgrade cycle, and I would normally be interested in the 2080 to replace my 1080. However, the performance gains are the worst we've seen in recent history, and the prices are higher than we've ever seen before. The fact that the 1080 Ti and 2080 are basically equal in performance, it just made sense to pick up a 1080 Ti for considerably cheaper than a 2080.

I hope AMD brings something to the table soon, or Nvidia will just continue to fall further off their rocker.

I get my 2080ti today. I can’t wait to powermod it, waterblock it and OC it to oblivion. I told the woman she doesn’t need to jerk me off anymore. The card will do it for her.
