PNY 240 ssd 89$

Good deal! Have one in my HTPC and it's been flawless.

Can't tell any discernable difference in boot and program/game load speeds vs my other SSD's, like the Samsung 830, HyperX 3K, Crucial M4, Seagate 600, and Toshiba Q.

Outstanding price for a budget-minded buyer wanting to get their first SSD (or upgrade an older 30-160GB drive) or add in a spare catch-all.

Not too shabby... I have an older 90GB model (I think it might be PNY too), that I've absolutely loved as a boot drive, but at 240GB maybe can start playing games off it, and at $90 using multiple ones isn't absolutely horrible an option. Use an large HDD for downloading everything to, and storing files (music/movies/etc) then everything installed goes on a SDD, then again I typically don't keep too many games installed that I'm not actively playing.

You could have two of the same model drives, but one of them may have a different controller chipset. I think the flash is the same though, but I could be mistaken.

Basically, there is no guarantee you're getting the "best" version, but some reviews said that both were fine for day-to-day tasks.

They use multiple qualified controllers, and guarantee the minimum advertised performance across all metrics. That's how they help keep the price low, but the performance and reliability up. These do not use slow asynchronous modules like the later revision of the Kingston V300, btw.

And people said I was on crack if 256 drives would be $100 come Black Friday, now what? lol.

I got this same drive for $79 from Newegg AR not that long ago. It regularly hits that price.

I think what got them into trouble is putting 2 different drives in the same packaging without differentiating them by model number. Sure, call it a PNY Optima, but add a "S" on the end of the model number for a SandForce controller or a "SM" for Silicon Motion controller.
