thanx guys

gwarren007 +1

x6 1055t with 4 gig, 870 and GT 240 is best bang for buck with $500 budget

Why intel only? You lose a lot of performance to sticking with intel.

If your budget is high then staying with intel is fine, but with a limited budget I think AMD beats intel performance at almost every lower end price point.

looking for 3 things only. cpu, mobo and ram. i dont have a clue about AMD stuff.. i was thinking of going i7-860, gigabyte p55 micro with gskill ripjaws from newegg which came out to exactly $500 shipped.

which amd combo do you guys recommend ?

CS5? if so, what GPU will you be using? cuz the GT240 shiro recommended won't be good enough for the CS5 goodness.

That heatsink doesn't seem to support lga 1156.

Also that RAM is made by a completely unknown manufacturer so I would say spend the extra like $8 and get this G.Skill DDR3-1333 Ripjaw set

What PSU will you be using with this system? What GPU?

any location near a fry's or microcenter?

actually there is one about an hr away. im going to go pick up a i7 930 for $199.

yea i am going to be using CS5 but nothing 3D

700w corsair. GPU? radeon 4850. but it really doesnt matter which GPU since im not doing any gaming nor any 3d works.

my mistake~ just got confused with my previous psu. its a OCZ StealthXStream 700w.

If you're going to be paying more than $40 without the hassle of dealing with a rebate for that PSU, you'd be paying too much money for it. The StealthXtream, as I and others such as Danny discovered, is based on the troublesome FSP Epsilon platform that's capable of only about 500W without having the ripple stray out of the ATX+12V 2.0 spec. If that ripple strays out of spec for long or repeatedly, the PSU might not blow up but the components that are powered by the PSU would likely die a relatively early death (for example, your GPU might have worked fine for a while until all of a sudden it starts displaying strange artifacts or corruption for no apparent reason). That is all that I'm going to say about it.

Hmm, Then I highly recommend NEVER overclocking the CPU. Considering that OCZ 700W PSU is actually a 500W PSU and that an OC'd i7 930 sucks up a lot of power in addition to the HD 4850's power usage, it would be a bad idea to OC that i7 930.

But for a stock clocked i7 930 + HD 4850, that PSU should be ok. Then again, if you haven't bought the PSU, don't buy it.
