please rate my replacement mobo/cpu combo

Until yesterday i was using a Asus P5Q Pro Mobo with Intel e5200 plus 4x 1Gb Corsair DDr2 RAM, Ati 4850, 640Gb Samsung and Seasonic x-560 PSU.

It seems like the motherboard died a sudden death since it makes no sign of live anymore.
no beeps, no lights, no fans, nothing. I tried replacing everything except CPU or MOBO since i didn't have fitting spare CPU/MOBO.

since buying an old socket 775 seems illogical, i searched for replacement parts.
I'm looking for a silent solution with enough power for the occasional game:

I think it looks fine but can I ask why you're choosing the 2400S?
Sandys run super cool and since you can't get a super high OC on a non-k CPU i think the stock heatsink will suffice.
If you're wanting an OC then go for a K series chip and an aftermarket cooler.
 
i had my current rig running nearly inaudible with fans under 1k rpm. so i opted for a low dtp chip.
but if they are running cool i will look for a -K chip then.
 
Yeah the i5 2400S actually performs slower than the regular i5 2400 IIRC. So not exactly a good choice there unless you really need to cut power usage at all costs.

The regular i5 2500K would be enough for you. Everything else seems fine.
 
yeah shadow i just put an i7-2400 build together a few hours ago and they run cool. the stock HSF is just like the old 775 coolers which are rated as some of the quietest fans out there. the only difference is that these can actually keep the cpu cool.
i say get the best k series cpu you can right now and if you need to upgrade the heatsink later then so be it.
 
tried 3 different psu's with no luck.
but i noticed that the board seems to start when the cpu is removed. (at least the fans start spinning)
so i'm not sure anymore if it's really the mobo which is bad.

edit:
will try to get the board checked at the pc store after work.
if it's really toast i'll pickup the replacements i posted above.

i would use my current heatsink which is an older thermalright one but i doubt i can find mounting brackets for the new mobo.
 
Heatsink uses same mounts as 1156 board. Asrock includes holes for both 1156 and 775 mounts.
 
update: my old board AND Cpu are dead!

so i bought the asus board with the i5-2500k chip.

i managed to ghetto mod my old thermalright heatsink to fit the mounting holes.
i will post pics tomorrow when i finish OS installation.
