Well, I am not for sure if this thread belongs here but if it doesn't then please if you could move it instead of deleting it. I think it does cause its gaming/video card related. Thanks! I am really into gaming and have been ever since I was in 4th grade. Its been a great hobby and I have had alot of fun upgrading my Dell. I was wondering if you guys could look at my system specs, in a constructive formate, without Dell bashing and all. Here is what I have:

(Purchased in 2001, highly upgraded)
Dell Dimsion 8200
250 Watt PSU
Intel Pentium 4 1.8Ghz 400mhz FSB- (Upgraded to 2.4Ghz)
80GB Hard Drive
512mb PC-800 RD RAM- (Upgraded to 1024mb)
16x DVD ROM Drive
18x CD-RW Drive
Flobby Drive
250mb Zip Disk Drive
21inch Monitor, not CRT
Harmon Kardon Subwoofer 2 Speaker Set
Intel Onboard Audio
Nvidia Geforce 3 Ti200 64mb- (Upgraded to an ATI Radeon 9700 Pro 128mb)
Windows XP Home Edition

Well thats pretty much it. I bought the computer directly from Dell in October 2001 and paid $2,400 for it. I have added the components listed as "Upgraded". I tried to do my best, and at the time in early 2003 when these upgrades were done, I think I did a good job. I just want to know what you guys think of this system, and how it compared to systems of the past when I got it and how it compares to systems today when it was upgraded. Thanks for your time!
 
Looks solid, as thecarguy said, it should run Doom 3 just fine. When do you plan on your next upgrade? You can get a lot more nowadays for less than $2400.
 
I'm surpised the 9700 (not exactly the most power efficient video card) runs on what I'm sure is a crappy 250W PSU.
 
The 250 Watt PSU, is really equvilent to a 300 Watt one. Dells power supplies are really great. I know alot of people that have upgraded to a Geforce 6800 GT and can run the card just fine.

Dell rates their powersupplies differently. Apparently the 250 watts is the median, and they can do around 340 watts maximum (even though it says "maximum: 250 watts" on the PSU :confused: ) according to a Dell empoyee (at the Dell messageboards).
 
Just two things that come to mind:

-Specifics on the monitor? LCDs can be anywhere from great to craptacular for gaming
-Audio... You can lower CPU utilization in games significantly with the proper sound card (by 10% or more I'd guess). The Audigy line in particular has very low utilization (if you can stand the thought of putting money into Creative's pocket ;) ).

They must've changed their rating scheme somewhere along the way then because I remember seeing the PSU that came with my ancient Dell PII 450 being rated as a 250 W... Heck I think even the old Dell P1 133's here was a 250 W (albeit, a propietary model back then and not a standard ATX PSU).

As for the LCD screen, if ti's the Dell 1901FP it's quite a quality product (and at a good price if you're buying it with a system)... That LCD has come out on top in many a comparison with other more general brand name LCDs.
 
Looks to be a decent game rig, i would say low mid-range by todays standards.

As others have said, onboard audio is craptastic.
If your a serious gamer consider upgrading to an Audigy(2 or ZS whatever) soundcard and a decent 5.1 speaker setup if you have the deskspace - i love hearing where the bullets/footsteps are coming from.

Other then that it looks that youve upgraded it almost as far as you can go.
