I can't figure out what is or is not under NDA at this point, and whether the beta forum at FF is private or not. So basically I'm confused, as usual.

Please post PPD numbers for radeon cards running the OpenCL client when you find them. TYVM.

Jebo you're not confused, it's just the way things are and ambiguity is the name of the game. I also want, no demand some numbers!!

Be patient just a couple more weeks, there are changes coming.

RAWR!!!!! I also demand ppd figures! lol

A billion dollars and a triple baconator would be good too while you're at it ;)

sigh

but the cards are cheap NOW

I saw 6870s going for $150
v6 numbers suck for all Radeon cards, there are numbers out there but they suck so bad it isn't worth discussing. All of v7 is in NDA right now so Patriot nor I can't share any info just yet.

Changes as in nvidia getting their doors blown off!? AND EVGA?!
on the nvidia part, probably not. I don't know personally, but I would bet you money the radeon cards will be roughly equal to their nvidia counterparts in terms of PPD.

EVGA.....maybe :)

Unfortunately, I strongly believe it will take more than a fantastic outcome for the Ati client to blow the doors off EVGA, probably closer to a small miracle. :(

probably

It will depend on how many ATI users are here that would start FAH based on the new client.

If the EVGA PPD gap is 7 million, and an average 6000 series Radeon produces 14k ppd, we will need 500 of them to catch up.

or 250 with x fire :D

Edit: for some reason i read that is we need 500 users to catch up.

Or 250 6990s then

Speaking of Radeon folding, anyone have a link to the changes you need to make for the current client to not eat so much damn cpu?

I will have a 6950 on the fire as soon as they release- so now we only need 499 more people!

As soon as my 5870 comes back from RMA then I hope to throw that into the fray. I'll also get my daughter to use her new 6950 so long as the client doesn't affect gaming.

I used to use the gpu client, I just get more ppd with smp and no gpu right now. When I was using gpu client on my last card (4850), I never noticed any problems, it seems to step aside gracefully upon 3D program start.

Good to hear. My 4890 is currently crunching MW@Home and Collatz. It would be nice to bring it back to F@H if the numbers are there.

I'm sure it will affect gaming; she'll just have to pause it before she starts a game and resume it after she's done.

Right. I never had good luck trying to run a game while FAH is running on the GPU. With the wrong combination of certain driver versions/client versions, it seemed like even "pausing" FAH didn't work properly. So, I just shut down FAH every time I start a game then start FAH back up once the game is over. It's easy.

a lot would just to shut nvidia people up...

If you use the fahtracker program you can set it so that it shuts down the client automatically when it detects a game. It just references running processes against a built in list which is an easily editable txt file so you can add exe's as needed. very easy and works like a charm

When v7 comes out, it probably won't be compatible with the GPU Tracker and may even render it obsolete.

it will render it obsolete. lets put it this way. its the client we have all been waiting for, for years. when you see it in a couple weeks you will understand.

I'm sure this is discussed constantly, the NDA stuff for a donator based computing project is just stupid. How much could to hurt to say what they're working on internally, or just tell us what to expect for PPD from future client/hardware pairings?

My guess is a) they want to reduce the chances of people abusing the system and b) they don't want people to buy hardware based on projected PPD numbers and results only to be disappointed when the final release turns out differently from the beta for whatever reason.

I'm crossing my fingers on this, although the weather is already starting to warm up which usually results in GPU clients being the first to get shut off.
