I just installed everything but my processor in my new P180 and don't know if there is a problem or not.

Power Supply: Turbo-Cool 510 Series by PC Power and Cooling
Motherboard: P5W DH Deluxe
Memory: 2 x 1 GB Ballistix

I plugged everything in: Fans, 24 pin to motherboard, 4 pin to motherboard, powersupply to 7900GTO, powersupply to Audigy 4. When I press the on button on the power supply, the green light came on the motherboard but no fans or even the powersupply started spinning. Is there a problem with the powersupply or is this normal until the CPU is installed?

Thanks!

(note: I posted this here because I figured all those motherboard guru's would know if the motherboard is responsable for letting the PSU know that it can start powering or not)

I'm just curious, but why would you try to power up a computer that has no cpu installed?

To see if it works. To see what happens. I did it on my first build while waiting on the CPU. I thought it might post or something. Im guessing he's curious like I was.

Youve never done something just to see what happens. :D :p

This is actually my second build, but my first time I tried the power supply with just a fan and a hard drive by taking a paper clip and connecting 2 of the 20 pins (was 20 at the time, now it is like 24). After they were connected, the PSU fan ran and powered the other fan I connected to it. I realize that you should have a load on it when testing, but I was careless back in the day. I never tested a PSU with just a motherboard before and didn't know what to expect, but now I see.

Thank you for your help and reassurance.
Now if only my E6600 would come!
