My last computer went through 3 motherboards, 1 power supply, and 1 video card in 2 years.
Finally, today, I'm thinking that this "computer" (or just the case itself) was cursed.

So, after being frustrated beyond belief, I am going to attempt to build a new computer.
what I am purchasing:
new case.
new power supply.
new motherboard.
new CPU.

i just bought a new video card which may not be what i'd like, but it'll have to do, as I am very low on cash. the video card is a sis xabre 400 by transcend.

anyhow, i'm looking to spend under $300 for all of this. and if i work it right, i expect to pay around $220.
i do not know if i would like to go Intel, or AMD. however, my last system was AMD, and I am thinking that I should go intel, now.

I would appreciate any suggestions on RELIABLE hardware.
Thanks a great deal!

if you expect to spend under 300, and preferably closer to 220, I don't think you'll get much if you do go pentium.

usually, bang for the buck goes to AMD, excluding the 2.4c's which oc well above 3ghz, but those are still ~$160 at newegg, not exactly gonna keep you in that price range

well i was thinking maybe..

$150 for the cpu/mobo
$50 for the power supply
$50 for the case

or maybe $40 for both power supply and case?
but i would just like it to be under $300, that's my main concern.

Thanks though.

You get what you pay for in some cases but if you can get around $300, here are some choice parts which I think you will be happy with in the long run. Just by some good ram in the future to complement it.

ANTEC SONATA with 380W PSU

Asus nForce2 Ultra 400 Chipset

AMD Athlon XP 2500+ Retail
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProdu...03-379&catalog=343&manufactory=BROWSE&depa=11

Everything should come to around $280 shipped from Newegg and tax free depending on where you live.

i second this option. i have a slight variation of it, and i couldnt be happier. one point tho, you might want to consider i slightly cheaper antect case and psu comb (maybe the slk3700amb which i have and love, comes with a 350w psu) and invest in a good, quiet heatsink and HSF
