please help me.smoke coming out from d hd power connectors.i had a low end grfx card.was running wid a cheap psu.no prob.it was running fine for 6 mnths.thn i sold it off and connected the monitor to the internal gpu.immediately smoke appeared.thought the psu to have gone bad.so ordered a seasonic s12 520.but same problem.the hd power connector had melted.please help!!!cabinet is storm trooper.

sorry,had never done it before.fixed now.
i used different connectors with different hd s but same problem.
 
Unfortunately you're SOL. Considering that drive dead.

Shouldn't have used that shitty PSU for so long.
 
dont knowif its a psu problem;cause the new seasonic psu gives the same problem wen i connected it to a different hd.could undgrounded socket be a cause cz i do have grounding problems at my home??
 
You have a burnt SATA HDD connector. The damage is done. Unless you're still burning hard drives with the new PSU, the old PSU already damaged your PC and HDD. Changing PSUs wouldn't help in that situation.

Well first, remove the damaged drive and power cables from the PC. Use only that new Seasonic PSU. See if the PC still boots correctly. If you have a spare PC with compatible parts, start testing each part of your main PC in that spare PC to see if the parts are still functional.

Damn.
I think this might be due to power related issue. Like brown out or power shortage.

I recommend UPS and make sure you check it is running every few months. <-- If you did have one, it might be faulty.
 
@silent circuit.m not worried about the burnt hd but i cant run rest of the system nw.
@steve i did connect the pc directly to the wall without ups but same prob.

Here's why:

You might have had other components get killed by that cheap PSU along with the HDD, especially the mobo and/or GPU and/or RAM. This is because you've been lied to by whomever manufactured or distributed or sold you that cheap PSU wit regards to its true output power capacity (for example, a "500W" unit that could barely output even 200W, let alone its claimed "500W" rating). What happened there was likely that the output from that cheap PSU is so horrible that the ripple went way out of whack (or extremely far out of the ATX spec) at the power draw of all of the other components of that system.

i guess it killed whole of my system.hope my new psu isnt dead too.
i see that only the pins corresponding to the 5v wire(red wire) has molted.any guesses why that would hapoen so.

new update!!
tested the mobo,ram,procesor on another sysrem without the hd.all started properly without any smoke untill it showed 'insert proper boot media' which i think is due to not connecting the hd.i guess other components are ok.bt m hesitating to connect the hd.dn want to burn down another hd.
 
If you actually using a new PSU, you don't have to worry about another burnt drive unless you have the world's shittiest luck.
 
could it be like this that the older psu have done damage to the hds and if i connect them to the new one they may also burn out?

Wait, how many hard drives did you have in that old PC? How many drives had burnt connectors?
 
i had 3 of them.bt nly 1 was burnt.thought the hd to be the problem.so i disconnected all of them n attached a good 1.same smoke appeared but this time i switched power off before it was too severe.there was no damage seen in the hd sata power pins.so it may b still alive.
 
every component is working fine nw,with the exception that i m running them in a open bench nt in d cabinet.
 
You let the smoke out. Once you let the smoke out, it doesn't work anymore.
 
that hd is dead.others seems to be working atm.bt stl the parts are not in the cabinet.does ungrounded walls can cause problems like these?

Have you removed the hard disk circuit board and looked at its other side? Because usually each voltage rail used (+5V, +12V) will have a fuse and overvoltage protector, and in case of too much voltage the latter will short out to protect the rest of the circuitry, but that usually causes the fuse to blow. IOW if you can solder, you may be able to recover the data inexpensively..
