ive posted before but no one knew the answer to my problem thats still going on!!!

i recently got a new x1950 to upgrade from an old 6800gs. i put it in and got all excited about it, installed the latest drivers for vista, and tried it out on cod2 but whats this? my fps is lower than before? it cant be. i try with Enemy Territory (free online game) fps is still in the low 30s and 40s and i used to get 120 with that game. i dont know whats going on so i install XP to see if it was just vista but alas, same problem. i thought it was my power supply so i switched it out for a 500W Antec earthwatt PSU and the problem persisted. i really have no idea whats going on. should i get a new setup? is it my processor bottenecking it? please please help because i really loved call of duty 2 but now i get 10fps staring at a wall on low settings.

Sounds like the card is the problem. Maybe the clock frequency is borked? Download Atitool to check what frequency the core and memory are running at.

nope they are both right where they should be and im not overclocking either

How did you get rid of the old drivers? Uninstall all of your video card drivers and run driver cleaner pro then install the new drivers.

have you fiddled with the CCC options? If you enable the anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering my cards take a big hit in fps. I would play around with CCC.
I had a similar problem, turned out to be the Catalyst A.I.

everything in CCC is set to Use application setting or off and the problem persists. sorry if im being buggy, but i would really like this problem to be resolved so im open to suggestions

going from nvidia to ati and vice versa, I had to reinstall wondows or else i got all sorts of issues w/ my performance

May be a long shot but you could try uninstalling your current drivers and install the ones without CCC to see if maybe CCC isnt bugged.

I havnt had this issue and have switched from ATI to Nvidia and vice versa without issue using the same method with DC pro i mentioned above. However when in doubt it never hurts to reinstall windows or even try dualbooting a clean install to see.

Do you have access to another computer that you could test the card in? If a fresh install of windows doesn't remedy the problem... hate to say it, RMA time.

yeah i already re installed it was one of the first things i did after all the driver and CCC changes didnt work. so....RMA? should i go with the same card again or just go for a 7900gs or something? i personally think it would be worth sacrificing power decrease for more reliability

you got a fluke problem. Theres no reason why that card should perform slower than a 6800GS. If it is a hardware problem, return it. There is no way that you will get back another defective card like that. I have never even heard of a video card with such a problem. If I was you I'd benchmark the card before you send it out. When you get a new one, benchmark it.

Also, what model did you get? 1950GT/1950Pro/1950XT/1950XTX?

I am guessing 1950GT because even a crippled XT series would womp a 6800GS.

Your not going to get "more reliability" by getting a 7900GS. Both ATI and Nvidia have their good and back lots. There are however certain brands that make more reliable cards due to better pcb/resistors. I've seen 7800GTX's dead because a part on their board fried because the rebuilder company went cheap.

its a sapphire x1950pro. and its been 31 days since it got here and newegg only does a 30 day RMA. sad day. eh..ill live. i wont be able to play any games or do anything 3d the way i want to but hey, computers arent everything. ima go play guitar. lol

but yeah. ill just live with it until i get a new PC. i just dont understand why its slower than my old card. if it is a hardware defect, too late. if not, someone please help

I will guess.. you have sync vertical refresh turned on. It has been known to slash fps since times immortal.

Welcome to x1950pro club, I am sure you will be as unhappy, and unsatisfied as I have been with my card.

Simply put, the x1950pro is cursed.

huh, I'm having no problems with my X1950GT OCed to Pro speeds
But I'm not really helping the problem by posting that...

Maybe try the drivers that came on the disc? Although the 1950Pro was released a while ago, I don't know if the drivers on the disc come with Vista support, but it's worth a try.
I would think that your processor is slightly bottlenecking your GPU, but it shouldn't be by much... what are your settings in game vs your old card?

the tender spot on the x1950pro is the voltage regulator temps : way high even with aftermarket cooler. in everest ultimate edition you can see this temp (mine idles at 65 C. and goes up to 118C. with ATItool "scan for artifacts" feature. the card could be slowing due to thermal issues: downclock it to 550/580 with ATItool, launch everest and start artifact scan. a cheap thermal solution for the x1950PRO is to remove the cooler cover and put 2x92mm fans with double-sided tape, one covering the voltage regulators.

Just my sad example: i had :( a 8800GTS that could reach 10800 in 3Dmark2006, but with temps going higher and higher the card performed slower each day until it maked only 5500 3dmarks and then it went dead...so i am back to x1950pro, but now i am idling at 62C. and achieving core clocks of 607Mhz on air.

my old settings in games were somewhere around 1024x768 at medium settings and i got about 30-40 fps in cod2 but now i set it all to the minimum and get 3, 4 and even 10 (sarcasm) fps. there has got to be something wrong. and ive tried the drivers from the card, and the 7.6 catalyst drivers without installing CCC and they both dont work.
