Hello,

A couple of days ago I started experiencing weird issues with games as if the videocard was dying (8800 gtx). I run a few stress tests and could run prime 95 without issues but as soon as I ran Furmark I saw artifacts and the whole thing crashed.

So I went out and bought a cheap video card as I prefer to wait for the next batch of videocards since I have little time for games right now.

Unfortunately the computer no longer powers on. I have disconnected all cards and peripherals, I kept just motherbard, processor and PSU. When I press the power button all fans start spinning and immediately stop. Then after one second they give another little spin and then nothing. Tried to clear cmos, nothing.

In my opinion the motherboard has died, or could it be the psu....?

Anyway here are my system specs:
Intel i7 920 D0
Asus P6X58 Premium
6 gb mushkin redline
8800 gtx (probably dead) replaced with geforce 210
Cantatis overture sound card
2x raptors 150 in raid0
And some other 1 Tb hard drive

In case you think it is the motherboard please suggest me a good replacement this time not asus as it would be my second dead mobo (the last was an asus commando)

What is the brand and model of the PSU were you using with that PC?

Update: if i remove the upper psu cable (8 pins) on the motherboard it will stay on but not post.

Unfortunately the computer no longer powers on. I have disconnected all cards and peripherals, I kept just motherbard, processor and PSU.

Try again with RAM this time.

Tried as we speak, no luck. I noticed that the psu led changes from yellow, then as I press the power button becomes red then green, then red for a second the it shuts off and becomes yellow again.

Try a different PSU. If a different PSU doesn't fix it, then just RMA the motherboard if it still has warranty. Simply put, a new mobo isn't worth the cost at all considering the age of the components and if the mobo still has warranty.

Power on with quick power off is usually a short someplace. Make sure you didn't drop any screws or something when you changed out the GPU that could be jumping from mobo to case or something like that. Probably not the issue, but it would suck to spend weeks of time and shipping money on RMAs for nothing.

Did you have a video card in when you added the ram? I ask because you didn't have that listed, you need at least ram, cpu, mobo and a video output to post.

I would vote for the PSU as long as you make sure yo didn't drop a screw anywhere.

One other thing.. did you remove the CPU and maybe put it in the wrong way?

also make sure you are using the correct 8-pin plug on the motherboard. If I am not mistaken, both the 8-pin PCI-e plug and the 8-pin motherboard plug are keyed the same.
