For the third time in as many weeks, Sony's PSN servers are down for maintenance. Coincidentally, only a day ago hackers bragged publicly about accessing Sony sites again. Kinda odd how every time hackers claim to have access, Sony denies the claims...but then the PSN is down for "maintenance" the next day. :p

"The sever maintenance performed at this time represents a crucial step in the full restoration for PSN, including the PlayStation Store," said Sony Network VP Eric Lempel. Sony confirmed yesterday that Store restoration is planned for this week, so this maintenance should be paving the way for it.

I've lost all my digitally purchased games on my ps3, and can't re-download them. I've been very patient w/ this whole fiasco, but my ps3 is becoming more worthless by the day.

Fudge......

I was planning to transfer data from one PS3 to another and I bet I won't be able to do it because this will be down...

Where's all the "The Playstation Network goes down more times than a.." jokes?

Actually this situation is well beyond the joke phase and quite possibly has past into "poor stupid bastards" territory.

I don't know which is worse, the incompetance of Sony's network engineers, for failing to successfully plea the case of these known, severe security flaws to managers and directors; the incompetance of the director, who failed to plea the case to budget for white hat analysis of the publicly accessible developer network; or the incompetance of CEO Howard Stringer, for his inability to manage the fallout and tripping over his tongue at every opportunity to represent his company.

These guys make politicians look good.

So I guess this means we won't be getting our free games this week?

They should just mail out hard copies of the free games so we can actually play them when they can't keep the servers up.

*insert old man joke about keeping it up*

The Playstation Network goes down more than interns did during the Clinton Administration.

How's that? :D

And to think I almost purchased a PS3 just for Mortal Kombat.

Sony might as well partner up with Comcast and create a constant outage bad customer experience superpower.

By the way Sony I swear I did not put a Curse on you for what you did to Sega.....

I'll go with CEO Howard Stringer. Ceo's have this thing about making sure that the people working under them are dumber then they are. Less chance of getting booted from the top job. Notice how the Corporations hire from the outside more now then from within their own ranks.

So PSN is up, but the store is like on a perma down.
At least that is how it is for me.
I would say the PSS is down not the PSN.

My brother gave me $300 to buy him a new game console.

I promptly ordered him a 4GB Xbox 360 with DiRT 3, Skate 3, and 3-months of XBL. He's been very happy with it.

Sorry, but the PS3 isn't worth the cost and bullshit going on right now.

whine whine, all I know is I have been playing online with out any down time since psn came back up, if they need to disable some functions to ensure that they can bring the store back up wheres the real issue in that. You are still able to play your online games people, and it seems to me that this is thier normal weekly maintenence period, kust as it was last week too.

Good.

I hope they continually get fucked in the ass until they are driven out of the console market.

Dreamcast 2

Why just the console market? We'd be better off with Sony out of business. Who needs the DRM, RIAA, MPAA, Trojans, format wars, etc.

it was down for all of what, 30 mins it looks like? Srsly, making a news story on this is worthless.

For those of you that think this is good to hurt Sony all this is going to do is make them cut corners with the ps4. Now they are probably just going to keep the blu ray drive and not put in ssd as the default.

Cutting corners will hurt them.

It will show up somewhere. Whether it be in the lacking spec sheets or in the high failure rate, all will be revealed in time.

Do you think it will have an "other OS" option? :p

Maybe they should charge for it like xbox live so they can hire some techs.

Oh no! whatever shall i do this weekend? oh wait i have a life, never owned any playstation and i have a pc with more power in the hard drive controller than the entire console.
