Playablity question...

everything meets or surpasses min specs, the radeon 9000 mobility isnt exactly up to par with its desktop brother but consitering itx dx9 it will be playable
 
i know i won't be able to play it at full, but with my system would it be worthwhile enough to shell out the $50 for the game?

there pretty decent laptops.. but puts a lot of noobs desktops to shame

you can get the best and make compromises til its within your budget range
but the laptop you showed should play doom3 fine... it runs fine on a geforce 4.. wich isnt even a directx9 card i belive
 
I'm not really a PC gamer and don't have the budget for an alienware. I am going to mostly use my notebook for work and wireless networking, its just that this game caught my eye
 
it really all depends on what you expect for eye candy and fluidness there are fps whores that want 100+ fps... or in doom3's case.. 60 fps 100% of the time

get the game and enjoy it.. even at lowest settings and 640x480 you will probably enjoy it.. but i think with that card you might be able to pull of 800x600

pcCHIPS M780mr mobo
Celeron 2 766@866 stock volts
120GB,40GB,20GB,13gb
384Mb RAM 48x Generic cdrom, 8x4x32 cd-rw
up to 1089 3dmarks with 3dmark 2001 with a radeon 7500 with 305mhz gpu core 245mhz ram

so, yea it does. this thing won't play doomIII to save it's life...

9000 is slower than the 8500. So he might have some trouble. And it's DX8 last I checked. But that shouldn't matter with such a slow GPU anyway.

oh i thought 9000 was start of dx9 series
 
No way man. First off Doom3 isn't DirectX, it's OpenGL, so it doesn't really matter if the 9000 is DX8.1 or DX9.

That 9000 will drag the whole system down. If you're looking to buy something to run Doom3 on I would NOT buy this laptop. Look for something with the same specs except a MUCH better video card.

forgot about that /me wasnt thinking straight *begins banging his head on the wall* yes a radeon of such a low modle number would blow for opengl.. a lot of nvidia cards run opengl better then even 9800
 
Can anyone suggest a lapto with the same specs as the one in the first post and a video card that will play doom in medium mode? My price range max's at $1,400 and it must have Windows XP Pro installed.(P.S. I'm not looking for a gaming machine)

Anything with a mobility Radeon 9600 would be ok, for what you want. I don't know if that can be had in your price range, though.
