Plants vs Zombies

i bought it direct from popcap's website where they have lovely regional pricing and it ended costing me the equivalent of about 4$. the game is really entertaining... a funny and cute take on the tower defense genre. not as involved as some other games but it's still good fun, and i'd recommend trying out the demo (only 25mb) if you're even slightly interested in these types of games.

I bought it off of Steam. I like it despite it being "casual". I like the humor.

Demo was awesome. Not entirely what I expected, but still, awesome. I'm sooo tempted to buy it.

People can say what they want about Popcap, but their games are as solid as they come (this might've been made a little easier by them not being as complex as, oh... Crysis, but the point stands).

Me and my 8 year old are in! Great strategy game and he was going nuts about it. Too much fun.

why won't popcap put resolution options in their games????

aside from that, another very addictive game.

What's with regional pricing and where are you from if I may ask...?

I was going to buy it on Steam for 9.99EUR after trying the 1h demo, and first I went to Popcap web's site thinking that buying direct from them might give them more moneys (I have to guess Steam will get some comission), but on their web page the price it gives me is 19.95EUR, wtf?!?

+1

19,95 € for that? No thank you. It's as bad as it is with Steam charging $1=1€.

I'm up to like 20 hours with this thing and its only been out a few days lol.

Anyway, yes, direct from popcap its $20, and from steam its $10. Its similar with other popcap games, so its not just this one. I'm guessing popcap gets enough sales direct on thier website they are just going to keep that price there.

I'm definitely loving this game. As some have said, it's not overly involved or even difficult (I haven't had to retry any levels yet), but there is a ton of great humor and value for $10 (via Steam).

Reminds me of a good joke:

What do vegetarian zombies eat?
GGRRAAAAAIIINNNNSSS!!!!

i'm in india. it's actually quite rare to get regional pricing for digital distribution, which is what i liked most about this. boxed games, however, all get regional pricing and the AAA games are priced in the 16$-20$ range, converted from local currency. so to me, it still cost 25% of what i would pay for a normal, 'big' game, which is about the same ratio for some other places as well (for eg. 10$ in the usa v/s 50$ for a AAA game).

they do seem to have messed up the regional pricing for europe though :(

I have been playing this since Tuesday and it's very entertaining. Adventure mode was maybe too easy but the mini games are starting to challenge me. The one mini game with the bobsled zombies is currently stymieing me.

Great. Thanks alot PopCap for creating yet another way for me to waste my life. Like I don't have enough of your games already. *Sigh* - I guess I'll just have to get another one now.

I was trying to think of the other games from them that I have and I came up with:
Bejeweled
Bejeweled 2
Bejeweled Twist
Atomica (my favorite)
Seven Seas
Zuma
Talismania
Venice
Peggle

9 games! Which, come to find out by looking at their web site, is only 20% of the ones that they have available for the PC. Amazing.

You can get the complete collection on steam for $99.

Bejeweled 2 Deluxe, Chuzzle Deluxe, Insaniquarium Deluxe, Zuma Deluxe, AstroPop Deluxe, Bejeweled Deluxe, BigMoney Deluxe, Bookworm Deluxe, Dynomite Deluxe, Feeding Frenzy 2 Deluxe, Hammer Heads Deluxe, Heavy Weapon Deluxe, Iggle Pop Deluxe, Pizza Frenzy Deluxe, Rocket Mania Deluxe, Typer Shark Deluxe, Talismania Deluxe, Bookworm Adventures Deluxe, Peggle Deluxe, Venice Deluxe, Mystery P.I.™ - The Lottery Ticket, Amazing Adventures The Lost Tomb™, Mystery P.I.™ - The Vegas Heist, Amazing Adventures Around the World, Peggle™ Nights, Bejeweled Twist, Mystery P.I.™ - The New York Fortune, The Wizard's Pen™, Plants vs. Zombies, Escape Rosecliff Island

This game is awesome. I am really getting into the more shorter casual games now a days..

Oh and a heads up to folks that are digging this game, another tower defense game is on sale as well..Defense Grid -The Awakening. It's awesome! It's also $5.00 right now.http://store.steampowered.com/app/18500/

This more than dumbass game just stole 5 hours of what is apparently, my dumbass life. I am not feeling good about coming out on top of this argument.

What is kyle referring to here? Does he not like this game?

Ok. I'll admit I was going to dismiss this game based on the title. Then after seeing everyone glowing over it, I figured I'd at least check out the demo...and I bought it. :D Pretty addicting and my 9 yo was interested in it too.

I tried out the demo, and was not entirely impressed. I don't really want to pay $10 for a flash game like that.

Now, I did pay for fantastic contraption... totally worth it there for a flash game.

Different strokes for different folks. I've tried just about every Popcap game there is, and I liked about 20% of them enough to buy them (see above). The only games they have that I really can't stand are the types where you have to look at a scene with jumbled up hidden items and try to pick them out.

Those games are good for old laptops since they take very little to run. :)

I just got done playing the demo for 54 mintues. Just enough time to make me realize...

Am I the only one who finds the fun in TD games is making a maze? The great Warcraft III TD games were all about creating awesome mazes, and I haven't seen a stand-alone game, flash or otherwise, to give me as much fun as the old Wacraft III custom games.

Nice tip. I didn't care for plants vs zombies enough to buy it, but I tried the demo for Defense Grid and I loved it. Plus, at $5, it's a steal.

I concur. I find myself enjoying the minigames more than the story mode gameplay. I especially like the Last Stand level where you build up a big initial defense with a lot of sunlight and just let it go.

I think that's true of most Pop-cap games.
The adventure mode is nice way to introducing all of things you can do in a structured way, and the games real legs are the challenges / puzzles.
There was sufficient variety for me to complete the main adventure mode, though if they had just unlocked everything from the start I'd probably have skipped most of it.
That's the same way Peggle got me, all the challenges after completing adventure mode was where I spent the bulk of my time.
For what it is, (puzzle / light tower defense) it's very good. It looks nice, it's got some humor to it, the game play and player experience is very polished. In the week since I've bought it, Steam tells me I've put 11.3 hours into it, which for a $10 game, probably makes it worth it even if I never pick it again. (I'm still trying to beat a few of the hard survival modes so I'm sure I'll add to that total).

I've played this game for 16 hours so far, and I'm genuinely surprised at how well it's held my attention. Completing the adventure mode and minigames were rather easy, but still very enjoyable. Survival mode is really quite fun and a welcome challenge. The appropriate difficulty level throughout the various stages of the game has me wanting to complete all of the achievements and whatnot. Most casual games like this can barely get me through the demo; I appreciate the polish and tuning that make this game special. The only thing I can see making the user experience more streamlined would be to add adjustable resolution. :p

I almost never purchase casual games like this, and certainly never for full price, but I don't regret this one at all. I saw the catchy music video, which got me interested in the demo, and soon after I'd purchased it. Great marketing, equally great game.
