Planetside 2

I'm not online right now, but apparently hackers are literally tearing the game apart by placing things like turrets into the warp-gate spawn tubes which cause instant death. They are also moving objects around at insane speeds killing anyone in their path.

Hacking online games is getting ridiculous. What the f*** is the point of it? To ruin my enjoyment and cause me grief? For the lulz? I hope that someone gets sued over this. SOE needs to set a precedent here.

im lvl 44 atm and ive only seen 1 hacker so far and it was a speed hack.

Sued? Really? It is an impossible task to completely block hacking. No matter what anti-cheat measures they come up with, people will find ways to circumvent them. This is exponentially more difficult when the game is free. Being banned just means creating a new account; there is no monetary loss, thus no risk in "trying". I'd wager SOE is working their asses off around the clock to combat hacking... the game would be completely unplayable if they weren't. I don't play the game as often as many of you do i'm sure, but I have yet to encounter a hacker. Considering the circumstances, I find that remarkable.

Recently decided to change servers, so had to start new characters. Ended up buying the XP Boost pack, since so many people are already higher level.

But it was worth it, since the Watterson server is so highly populated... far, far more action on a regular basis. I also don't mind supporting the game with buying station cash, since I find myself enjoying it far more now.

Damn, though... been a while since I've played. Gotta get my speed back again.

Any good outfits on Watterson for TR?

Watterson is highly populated? Maybe for the Terran Republic whom never fail to have less than 40% of the population.

This illistrates another serious problem with the game, continent population imbalance. I have lost count how many times each faction will have their own continent, or the majority of one. I have even "felt" it during battles where we start "winning" and I will check the population to find 5-10% of the opposing teams forces went to another continent where they are the dominant force.

Yeah, that's the permanent issue on Jaeger too. Every faction has a continent at 80% pop with 10% for the other two factions.
I know they're changing the pop bonus XP %s so they are continent specific, but I don't know if that will fix it. The XP bonuses haven't been huge from what I've seen, so getting a +5-10% XP bonus is worthless when you're fighting 3 vs 1 and die 3 times as quickly.

ODAM and BRIT(totalbiscuit) are the biggies

I am in Devil Dogs and when they arent active I piggyback onto an ODAM platoon

I think Genudine is one of the lower population servers. Indar is the only continent you can find a battle on and the other continents are completely devoid of life.
But there are usually a fairly equal amount of players from each faction on Indar and it doesn't get conquered very often.

I just logged in to check population on Connery, VS 27%, TR 34%, NC 37%, what was the experience bonus for VS you ask? 4%.

It really looks like the game is bleeding players at a steady rate, considering they haven't done anything about issues they talked about fixing over two months ago, I am not surprised.

I really would like to know how many people have quit in the last months due to:
Poor optimization
Air being OP
ridiculously slow Cert gain
Server population imbalance
The zerg
Crappy spawn placement

Considering they have only fixed air being OP recently and haven't touched the other 5, things aren't looking too good.

I loved it for the first few weeks but haven't gone back since. I have about 70 hours in the game and it already feels like a been there done that affair; the bases are almost always a copy-paste job, and the huge 200 player rollouts that used to get me excited just aren't that impressive to me anymore. The lack of meta game didn't bother me at first but seeing base control flip like it does coupled with gunplay that is merely average when it's at it's very best kind of turns me off now.

The game currently has lots of issues IMO: copy-paste base setups, slow cert gain (the double cert weekends are what it ought to be normally IMO), each faction's weapons mostly all look and sound the same, many of the weapons are junk (the Jackhammer being one example), weapons and cosmetics are too expensive unless they're on sale, and the lack of permanence to base taking/defense.

Some new base setups with some new methods of capture would go a long way to making the game more interesting (like having infiltrators hack key terminals at the small buildings around biolabs/techs that can affect it in some ways: shutdown spawn points, speed up flip time, jam vehicle radar, etc.)

They've lost me for the time being but I still have SOE credits left and hope that it will get better one day and suck me back in.

Cancelled my 3 month rolling sub before it has chance to renew.

The game is at best about 1/3rd finished, 3 major base types, 3 conts and general lack of content makes it very VERY hard to justify paying for this game. When they manage triple the number of continents and add a meaningful meta game on top of that I'll be happy to return as a paying customer.

Lots of other issues as well, many frustrating little bugs that make playing it a chore, they've strayed from their roots a little too far and released too early, once again we're left paying for a clearly unfinished game. I might play from time to time without my sub, try and keep up with changes and see if it improves but after being very active for the first 6 odd weeks quickly getting to level 46, i just CBA with the game now.

I'm a lot more forgiving for PS2 since it is F2P after all. If you thought the game was unfinished, then, well, don't spend money on it. No harm, no foul.

If the populations line up right and there's an epic fight taking place on Indar, I still really enjoy it. I'll usually log on a couple times a week just to check things out, and if nothing looks good, I'll just logout for a few more days.

I enjoy the game tremendously, though I definitely agree that it lives or dies depending whether you are in a good platoon or not. Definitely join an outfit if you haven't, it makes the chance of having lots of people on who want to coordinate much better. If you're in a crappy squad, or in none at all, you won't experience any of the magic this game has to offer. Most of the zergs can be squelched with a decent platoon/outfit.

Regarding an unfulfilling meta-game, I agree. It's not that impressive, but at least for now it hasn't impacted my enjoyment. What is impressive (to me) is that the developers have solicited some feedback from the community (here is some info on that, with a good video from a player with examples on how to improve the game - beware, the guy speaking has an incredibly obnoxious voice).

People say the devs haven't improved the game, but it appears to be at least once a week they make some tweaks to game balance to address issues. They haven't added much content yet, but I don't think they need to - if they listen to some of the player's suggestions similar to those in the video, I think there are some extremely low-cost improvements that could dramatically improve the game. The meta-game isn't a content issue necessarily, I believe it's more about structuring player incentives properly. Personally, I think the game is excellent, and that it has a dramatic amount of potential for the future.

I think supply lines would be a good start to building up a metagame. For example, when the crown gets completely surrounded by enemy territory, the supply of resource to it should be cut, with the exception of special units that could bring in small amounts manually either by air or ground. And then if holding the central hexes are worth more than the ones near warp gates (for some overall larger goal), it would make both trying to capture/defend central hexes along with maintaining surrounding hexes (supply lines) equally important.

But before they think of meta, they need to still fix some core gameplay mechanics. I think the upcoming patch will be a big step in the right direction, but at the rate things are going, I think it won't be until around May or June that the core gameplay is finally working well. It's okay as it is right now (minus liberators, I wouldn't mind those removed completely), but it has a lot of room for improvement. Still, I love the game, and love that SOE is listening to the players. They really are, but cannot address all issues overnight. Like mentioned, this was an early release and is still a work in progress.

Can't wait to kick some asses with my NC sniper on Miller server today.
For some reason I finds all other classes boring to play so I upgraded sniper with 2 loadouts:
1. Long distance sniping
2. Close combat encounter

and Flash with scout radar and a gun just for fun.

I have so much fun with sniper. It is good in both long distance and close combat cases if equipped right and can kick some asses pretty efficiently :)

Scout Radar broadcast on Flash - useless now?

I have Flash with fully upgraded Scout Radar. I often use it during base defenses or base attacks to park it in a hot place to help my team mates to see enemies around.

Yesterday I noticed that after parking my scout radar Flash and running away from it like just 100 or so meters all enemy reading dissapear completely from my minimap. The place that just a second ago looked like a frontline suddenly looks peacful with no enemies on the minimap.

RLY???

I do not get any rewards for spotting using scout radar and still do it to help my platoon and now scout radar is barely useful.

Have they nerfed it? Basically if I am on flash scout radar surrounded by 1000 enemies and my minimap is fully red of red splashes my allies just 100 meters away will think that everything is fine and there are no enemies because their minimaps show nothing. Comon!!!

I haven't played yet today, but I hope that was just some sort of glitch or something because I've been working on fully upping that as well, so far I'm at 50 meter radar.

This 2x weekend really revealed to me what large fights consist of. As fun and frustrating as they were the drop in performance is really upsetting. I was going as low as 30FPS on Indar.
I have an optimized user ini but I play with shadows on. It kills me without.

Is this performance typical for my specs? I can post the ini when I get home from work.

i got msi 670pe oc sli 2gb
3770k @ 4.4
8gb 1600
asus p8z77 v pro

and i still have seen fps in 30s in absolutely epic fights. Wish it didnt go this low. One thing i did though was change my userini settings to ultra because i did not notice a dip in performance (since im only cpu bound in fights) but made the game a heck of a lot prettier.

My main issue about the large fights was the severely decreased infantry render distance. It got pretty bad on Helios, which normally isn't the case anymore being one of the smaller medium population servers. It was actually a reminder that in no way will I leave it for a larger one when server transfer tokens are available until they fix the render issue. I like epic battles, but the render distance issue totally kills them for me, way more than dropping 30fps. :(

But know that when you're dropping to 30fps, most others are probably dropping to 10-20fps. So it could far worse...

Overall though, fun weekend. I can't wait until the 30th for this major patch though. I've been saving up certs pretty much all month in anticipation for it.

Good call. I'm so preoccupied with myself that I never think what most other people are getting as far as frames. I think I was just more concerned that the performance I am getting is normal. I am a little paranoid that my CPU is a bottleneck for my GPUs but I get good performance in other games. One bad experience and my paranoia skyrockets.

I managed to save about 500 certs. Didn't get to play as much as I'd like but it was great none the less.

I think the performance you are getting is normal (based on my own). But our CPUs r prob the bottleneck

If you press alt-f it shows you your FPS in the bottom left and what your bottleneck is, CPU or GPU.

I have a i7 930 OCd to 3.2GHz and a Geforce 460 and it is always my CPU unless there are no people around.

Yeah, I've done that and it goes back and forth from GPU to CPU pretty randomly :(

If hel1111 is having trouble with his 3770k then there must be some sort of development issue? amirite?

the game / engine barely uses 2 cores for me, this game seems like it could really benefit from more core usage with how cpu limited the game apears to be

Just for reference to show that its not my computer that's the problem... I play bf3 and never ever go below 60 fps (well maybe on top of Sharqis tv station in 64 person server) crysis 2 rarely dips into the 50s in single player and never in mp. All games Max at 1080p. Also I have 3dmark11 score of 15800p physics score of around 11000 and gpu score of 19200

They know performance is a problem. They said they are not sure if 60fps is realistic even in the most intense of situations, but they are shooting for at least 45fps in the near future.

Dev's have mentioned they personally have computers that get 25fps in triple faction fights.

A game of this unique of a scope hasn't really been optimized for before. It'll take time.

Yeah I hear you. It's hard to complain about performance when there's literally hundreds of people on screen and I'm still in the 40s. But it's also hard not to complain when you just put a ton of money into a pc to play games like ps2 at 60fps. Anyways, I think most people are just concerned that there pc isn't getting the performance that others with similar set ups r getting because there's always those ppl that go around saying "I always get 60fps on ultra max settings on three monitors with my 8800gts 320mb"

Exactly this.

I totally understand that a game like this is pretty unique and it's impossible to anticipate the sheer volume of action going on in an area. As long as its not just me I'm fine lol. Misery loves it company.
