The price dropped! You can get the BFG PhysX card for $199 here:

Outpost.com

... I couldn't resist any longer and just ordered one (mainly for CoV :D)

Sounds nice but after taxes and shipping it's almost $250 bucks which is just slightly under newegg's price.

Scratch that it's more like $230 which is about a $50 savings aint to bad but still not worth it.

What exactly does the addition of the PPU do to CoV. Are there any comparisions of with and without the PPU out there for CoV specifically?

I am not sure but I believe the next chapter (or it could be released by now) will include effect physics provided and accelerated by the Ageia card. It's an online mass multiplayer game so there is no way to implement real physics.

There currently is no PhysX support in CoV. Issue 7 was supposed to have it, but it is still disabeled.

Hmm.. thanks for the link. It comes out to be $207 for me after shipping.. no tax. :) But, I am building my next computer next month when the AMD price drops come.. so I think I'll hold off because the PhysX prices might even be down lower by then. This is a pretty good deal though. Still overpriced IMO for what you get out of it since so few of games currenty support it.

it comes out to 207 shipped overnight to me lol .. i had this bfg ppu when it was 299 but returned it ..

its tempting at this price though

It's back to $299, and it still doesn't improve gameplay or enhance eye candy.

Must of been a pricing mistake. The person who put it up must of thought "299 are for the thing? That must be 199 because I could never see anyone ever buying this crap for that much" ;)

LoL

maybe they sold out their stock, and couldnt sell new stock at that price? or maybe ageia yelled at em... could have just been market research to see how sales increase too? just some speculation.

Add "enhances gameply and eye candy" to the list of requirements.
you will be waiting for a while, its a physics card, not a graphics card. so how is it going to increase eye candy?

More crap flying around. That's what it currently does in GRAW.

i wouldnt buy a PhysX PPU if it was 50 dollars.
I would buy it today for that price :) Might even buy it at $100.00...But not more.

I'll wait till it's free, then I'll mod it to a coaster so it can join my AOL CD's.

Drop me a PM when it's somewhere around $50-$75 AND when there is more than one game around that uses it (and is out of beta testing).

I don't think you will get a return like that from any hardware other than a keyboard or mouse...

If you paid $50-75 for a keyboard you got ripped off... even if it does have thirteen different coloured LEDs and a little miniature portrait of Fatal1ty smiling at you on the CTRL buttons.

I paid between $125 and $150 for my mouse and keyboard...

its a gyromouse... nothing beats it when you've got carpeltunnel....

Soundcard? Speakers? Headset?
You could get a soundcard for around 50-75, but for 25-30 bucks more, you can get nearly 3 fold the power.

50-75 for speakers or headsets? From walmart? rofl!!!!!!!

Hey everyone!!! I just bought some weak ass 2.1 speakers for 19.99. This can only mean Ageia is not worth it!!!1111!!111!!

Looks like you have more of a grudge against Fata1ty than a strong point against my stand.

3 fold the power of a soundcard? You mean....3 soundcards at once?? WHOA! .... seriously....what the heck is 3 fold the power of a soundcard?

No, from newegg. Nice Logitech computer speakers. Work for me and give me 3 fold the use of a physics card ;)
Headset is a Sennheiser PC150, very good for the money if you know at least a little bit about headsets.

You have issues man....calm down.

I think it means the sounds are 3 times as loud, unfortunately you won't be able to take advantage of it on your walmart speakers.

Really, I have never seen anyone get so worked up over the prospect of making cost effective purchases.

That is funny because it was your logic, not mine......

You get what you pay for, but if you are happy with budget hardware-- everyone wins.

Now we're getting somewhere. And obviously that's where our opinions differ greatly, because i don't think i get ANYTHING if i purchase a PhysX card right now. I mean, seriously, what DO you get for $300 (or $220 or $199 or whatever it is right now)? A card that supports ONE game (which is not even released) and that supports EFFECT physics in one (?) game out right now. Nothing and let me repeat that, NOTHING else.

As opposed to a "budget" soundcard/speakers/headset for example btw.

Cheap hardware that actually does something > expensive hardware that does nothing imho, but if you're happy with buying expensive stuff for nothing...then everyone wins ;)

So i'm just thinking here, with the majority of the new higher end boards having more and more of the pci-e 1x, and so on type of slots, which don't get a whole lot of use, and as a result only having 1 pci slot.......how do you run a high end soundcard AND a physx card at the same time?

“A card that supports ONE game (which is not even released) and that supports EFFECT physics in one (?) game out right now. Nothing and let me repeat that, NOTHING else.”
There is a total of 6 games out you can use the PPU with. I have 5 installed and I play on my computer now. The 6th City of Villains is of no interest to me. More are coming out as well. I have Rise of Nations so when the PPU patch comes out and my pre order of Scared 2 and UT arrive the PPU will be even more worth it.

Too many people are acting like there is only 1 game out and no more will come out. There’s nothing wrong with spending £300 on a card when you known a bunch of games you have on pre order work with is and you have games installed now to work with it. By the time I finished my current games more will be out.

If I could only play 5 games with my 7800 gt which cost about 300 then I wouldn't buy it lol...Same goes for the PPU...

You listed a game that is out but dosn't have the patch yet for using the card. Bet On Soldier is the only game released right now that isn't using just effects physics but sadly the physics it did use are poorly implemented because of bad developer design. City of Villians is effects physics UT2k7 will be effects physics where it counts which is online. Scared 2 I don't know about and the rest of the games to be released are small games that might not even utilize the card but just the engine.

I have two 7800gt cards on my rig, and I only ever play three games on it. Oblivion, Titan Quest, and UT2004. I have two sourround sound speaker setups working together-- totaling over $500-- yet I only play 3 games. My X-fi cost me $150. My 518 cost 50. My ecliplse cost the same. The monitor that I just recently bought has only had 3 games played on it-- and it also cost $500.

Quality > Quantity any day, any where, any how.
