So I've been considering getting a new phone and my choice has come down to the following Samsung phones:

Nexus S (i9023...i9020 is a lot rarer)
Nexus (i9025)
Galaxy S3

From what I can see from the reviews of the i9023 and i9025 both are rocking phones and the S3 isn't out yet but it's expected to be better than the S2...which also seems like a rocking phone.
My question is, in practical terms, is there really much of a difference between the performance of the phones? Is the potential of a quad-core in the S3 worth it? My phone will simply be used for calling, texting, listening to music/learning a language and playing games for learning a language.
Is there an actual real world difference between the Nexus S i902(0)3 and the Nexus i9025 or is it purely e-Penis?

The i9020 is singal core, the i9025 is dual core....

OK, good to know. In saying that, is there any real world difference in the performance of the phones or is it just e-penis?

For Android, big difference.

Otherwise, IMO, get the Galaxy Nexus, or whatever that upcomming HTC One X phone (1280x720 display, fastest mobile CPU around... faster than even the quad core Tegra 3, in most cases, just the GPU is still slower than the iPhone 4S, which still reigns mobile GPU king).

How about a BlackBerry 9900/9930?

Shows that:

A. You have a badass piece of hardware

B. You aren't scared to go against the norm and can learn something new

C. That "You got a BlackBerry?" response followed by your "Yeah, and its the greatest phone I've ever had!"

D. So you can thank me later.

In all seriousness though I've owned a few smart phones...Windows (older 6.5 HTC), Android (EVO and EVO 3D), iOS (iPhone 3GS and 4)...and in all honesty since getting my 9930 I have a hard time putting it down. Its so intuitive and easy to use, not to mention stable, that I CAN NOT go back to any other phone. Period.

The only way I will is if RIM goes out of business and I have no choice.

Also its called e-Peen I believe...at least thats what I've always heard...e-Penis sounds like a sex toy.

As an owner of a nexus S. I am wondering how it's even on the list unless it's as a low cost alternative. It's a great phone, but hardware wise it's out classed by the dual core phones.

I have a 9930 for work and I hate it. Small screen is small. Not intuitive. Does email very good, that's about it. Everything else is mediocre at best.

iPhone4s + iPad + Ipod + Macbook Air = Biggest e-penis and also largest douchebag scent.

Samsung Galaxy Note. Nothing says e-penis and douchbaggery like talking on a tablet pasted to your head.

This is definitely one of those "to each their own" type situations because I absolutely love my 9930 in every way shape and form.

Once you LEARN how to use the OS completely it becomes a breeze to do anything you want to do.

Again, to each their own.

HTC Titan. Big enough to say: "yeah, I've got big man hands". Slim and light enough to travel. Beautiful metal body, build quality is incomperable. I've used the iPhone 1 (closest in build quality), Palm Pre, Skyrocket, Galaxy Nexus, EVO, Dell Venue Pro and this is my favorite. WP7 is by far my favorite OS having used Android, WebOS, and iOS.

You can also get them relatively cheap compared to the Nexus or SII, both of which the build quality are put to shame by the Titan.

Can't the Nexus S (i9023) be upgraded to the same version of Android as the Nexus (i9025)?

Nexus S is on the list due to it being the phone I wanted about a year and a half ago, handling NFC, having multiple positive reviews, it's Samsung which I like and yes....because it's cheaper than the Nexus.
Where I live the Nexus S costs about $300 and the Nexus costs about $550 (which is an awesome deal i found).
It's out classed by dual core phones IN REALITY or just in terms of benchmark numbers/e-penis? Do you ACTUALLY notice a difference?

The name of the i9025 is Galaxy Nexus, often abbreviated as GN. The "Galaxy" part is important, please stop leaving it out.

Anyway, the GN is way, *way* better than the Nexus S. The NS has too little RAM, and the screen isn't very good. The Galaxy Nexus is awesome, though, definitely worth it. I would definitely not recommend getting a Nexus S. And the performance difference between the two is massive in real world usage. The screen is also far better (1280x720 on the GN vs. 800x480 on the NS).

Lol all this talk about "e-peen" and large phones like the Galaxy Note reminds me of a quote I saw on XDA a while back:

"Is that a smartphone in your pants or are you just happy to see me?" =P

Depends on what you do with the phone, ICS stuff is not bad on the Nexus S, cant comment the GN, but when you start trying to do a few things @ once its not too fast....

edit: and i agree, please refer to it as the GN or galaxy nexus, when you say just "nexus" it can be 3 phones, and first that comes to mind is the origional nexus (the Nexus 1)

+1 for the Titan. My favorite smartphone so far (used Blackberry's for years followed by multiple Samsung Galaxy devices). Never thought I'd be able to use anything else after being spoiled by SAMOLED, saw the Titan in person and hadn't thought about SAMOLED since. Not to mention build quality of the Titan pretty much poops all over the devices you listed.

I hated WP7 at first, but after Mango came out, I realized just how much I disliked about Android. No more force closes, random reboots, waiting forever to switch apps, and the thing just FLIES. Amazing how this single core blows away all the dual core devices I've used in the past.

WP7 is not without its faults, but each update feels like it's generations ahead of the last. I can't wait to see what WP8 (which the Titan will get) has in store later this year.

Just my 2 cents.

Yeah, I tend to fish the BT headset out of my pocket to answer calls, rather than pull the note out. I am 6'2" and look like my sole purpose for existence is baling hay, and the note still looks big in my hands against the side of my head.
Other than being a little too big, it is the best smart phone I have ever used.
If it has a pen you are doing it wrong my ass, the pen is not needed, but it makes certain things a hell of a lot easier to do. I wish they made it just a little under 5". I think it would be a more manageable size.

Mine is an unlocked, unbranded version, so when ICS comes out, I will just wait a couple weeks to make sure Samsung did not mess it up and then upgrade. I will not need to wait on the carrier to update it.

I think the whole "It's too big to hold up to your head" is overblown, It's not that much bigger than a traditional cell phone (the SGNote), and I prefer function over style any day.
