Phil Sholz killed...

Without meaning to trivialise his death that was a pretty epic way to go out.

His wifes statement is kind of...odd....why did she feel the need to clarify what he did? He was a hero in the truest sense of the word. RIP Phil. Just one human trying to help another.

When the story originally broke a few days ago it wasn't stated that he was helping someone off the tracks so she probably doesn't want people to think he was committing suicide.

Yes! (virtual hat off) Everyone is going to eventually die, trying to save another person is a pretty badass way to go.

And the first thing she most likely was asked by press and cops was "was he suicidal? any mental issues? family problems?" because their job is being assholes, finding out what actually happened, and asking tough questions. That would get pretty damn frustrating when you just lost your husband because he was being a hero and now his motives are called into question.

This. RIP. I hope the other guy wasn't trying to commit suicide.

Well it's unfortunate he died trying to save someone. Takes balls to risk your own life for a stranger

Good on him, too bad it ended in tragedy. It's always best to make sure your person is safe and the situation is safe before diving in. Having two cadavers is worse than one.

You beat me to it. Yes, the original stories made it sound like he was just arbitrarily hit by some train without rhyme or reason, leading to tons of speculation. Turns out he was being awesome. The man he tried to save is still alive. The question is if he'll pull through or not, as apparently he's still in critical condition.

Noble way to go out. I hope his family can take some small level of comfort in knowing he really was a hero. RIP.

RIP Phil

that being said why on earth did he need to 'lay down' on the tracks next to the guy to help him as the article stated??...and why couldn't he see or hear the train coming...every time someone accidentally gets hit by a train I wonder the same thing...trains are not silent and stealthy...they are loud and noisy
