My favorite power supply (OCZ) is on backorder so I'm searching around for an alternative. I came across an Enermax that seems to good rails (2 sep. 12v) and PFC (which OCZ doesn't). How important or useful is this feature? I do like a quiet PS if this makes any difference.

Thanks for any input. :)

I thought that PFC just had to do with the efficiency of the power supply, nothing to do with noise.

I thought that PFC gave only three real advantages:

1. You can get by with a smaller UPS because the peak current will be lower;

2. If you get an active PFC PSU and live in a country where 220-240VAC is used, there's no chance of accidentally blowing up the PSU by flipping the 110/220V selector switch the wrong way.

3. You can measure the power useage accurately by just measuring the AC amps and multiplying by the voltage.

thanks for the replies. After reading these and doing some searching through the threads, it seems the consensus is that PFC isn't needed by the average home user. So I'm gonna just wait for my OCZ to come back into stock. These are pretty quiet, stable and are ready for PCI express. :)
