I feel bad for retailers having to deal with this shit.

I bought my GTX970 from Amazon at launch, and they gave me a 30% refund (see my post on page 56 of this thread).Hey bud, when did you buy your card? I bought mine some time ago and wondering if anyone had luck with launch cards?
I don't even know why they gave me 30%, I only asked for 20%, just like almost everyone else was doing.I just did the same and I had my refund in less than 5 minutes. I accidentally let the chat time out but they honored 20% for mine. Wish I had saw your post first and shot for the 30%.
it's coming out of their pockets. this is turning into a bunch of people extorting money from good businesses like Amazon and Newegg. It's good to see some retailers helping ease the pain, but I have to wonder where all the lost money is coming from.

If you're not happy with the card, return it. There's no logical reason to claim a 20-30% discount on the card unless you're trying to get something for nothing. The card either works for you or it doesn't. This is turning into such a pile of shit and will result in good customers getting shit on in the future over legitimate issues. same kind of customer abuse of liberal return/exchange policies at Costco that changed that situation for the worse.
it doesn't matter who's pocket it's coming out of. if you consider the card to be defective then you obtain a refund. if you argue for a percentage off but keep the card and continue using it then you're just extorting money. If you'd bothered to read the thread, you'd know that this is very highly unlikely to be coming out of the retailers pocket.

it's fairly clear when people are refusing to return the card and getting pissy because they *only* want a partial refund.
This is a pretty black and white perception. I dont consider my card defective at all, it still works and performs well. I do however feel I was mislead when I made my purchase as to the specs of the card, which warrants some of my money back as I did not get what I paid for. Quite simple really, and not extortion at all.

I had 2 GTX 970 from Newegg & Tigerdirect.
Contacted them both. Newegg refunded 10% to my CC while Tigerdirect refused to do so at the moment and stated they will escalate to management and contact NVIDIA.
Thus I think the refund from Amazon & Newegg are goodwill of the company, not from NVIDIA.

That is still better than nothing. Most stores will tell you "tough luck".
I could return the card, but then my only real options are a GTX 980, which I don't want to spend +$200 on and reward nVidia, or a 290X, and I'm not really sure I'm ready to go back to AMD drivers. Don't have another card to fall back on so for now it seems like I might as well just keep it.

Oh mah gawdThis pretty much summarizes this whole thread!!!
I did the best I could toward the 980. Yea rewarding nVidia ws stupid, but I am not waiting for new AMD cards, and I damn sure am not going with a house heater aka 290/x variant.
So I sold my 970 after I got my 20% discount back. The 980 then became reasonable. I made just about as much back as I paid for my 970 (Was a gigabyte G1 gaming edition) so I consider myself lucky. The buyer knew about the "issue" but gamed at 1080p.

These are not small mom and pop shops they don't need a fucking white knight. I guarantee they already have something figured out with Nvidia... Get off the high horse.
There's nothing in this world more sickening than a consumer white knighting a multi billion dollar business.
Youll get a check in the mail for $2.33 after all court/lawyer feesSo what's going to happen for all us GTX 970 owners? Will we get a check in the mail or a discount on a 980ti when that gets released? We should get something. I have a GTX 970 sitting in my spare rig right now.
The biggest point is that it makes Nvidia weary of committing this type of shit again.

Unfortunately, I highly doubt that.
BULLSHIT
If people are smart, and not completely full of shit with their fanboism, they will vote with their wallets.
Hey millions being lost due to a really stupid mistake should make shareholders pretty upset.
So Nvidia will like this class action lawsuit and enjoy losing money for no reason? I do not understand what you are trying to even say...
I am not saying they are going under or something...But lawyers are not free, and shareholders do not like shitty mistakes. I do not think the stock will falter, I just feel like they will hear things from the people who invest in them.
