Petition For Reddit CEO Resignation Over 157K

Well, different subreddits are certainly close minded. You can post the same thing in two different subs. One place will get heavily up-voted, and one will get heavily down-voted.

For a more balanced discussion, reddit is really not that great of a site.

Go into /r/politics and post anything conservative or non-liberal. Downvotes and attacks left and right. Open minded? Not there. Very rarely have I seen decent discussion between liberal and conservatives. It happens, but it's very rare. Conservatives are dumb, party votes, old, white, racist people. Everyone else is a beautiful unicorn....

Other subs are much different. Some are very open minded and you can come in with an unpopular opinion but still valid, and not get downvoted to oblivion.

Yup, because its an open minded place that gives everyone a home, where the KKK and the Black Panthers can be next door neighbor subs, as long as they promise not to do anything illegal like organize kill whitey or lynching days. To call the ultimate freedom of speech that accepts everyone and anyone to setup their spot there is pretty much the exact opposite of closed mindedness. Reddit is simply EVERYTHING, with SJW and anti-SJW subs and everything in between. If you can think of it, it probably exists, which means its about as diverse as one of those mega-crayon boxes.

Well, except instead of 64, make it 64,000... heh! One of those crayons is a Santa Porn one BTW.

we even know why the reddit admin was fired? Also Reddit knows if they fire Ellen Pao she will sue them for anything and everything.

PAO needs to go, Didn't like her from the beginning can't believe she got the CEO job...

This is just an illustration of society at-large. We have become accustomed to strict polarization. One side must be right and the other side must be wrong. In reality, many issues are much more nuanced than people want to give them credit for being. It is easier to side with a particular group, and then mindlessly follow them regardless, than it is to become truly informed on an issue or to enter into a discussion with an open mind prior to making a decision about which colored shirts to line up with.

Pao has responded with a BP-oilspill disaster like "we're sorry" post... top voted comments indicate the peeps are having none of it, and probably won't take anything short of Pao if not being fired outright at least being removed as interim CEO:

Her ekjp account has received tens of thousands of downvotes. Some users did calculations and came up with a karma score of -53,202, yet it got bumped to 10K positive, showing that's being manipulated too, lol! They're trying to find proof she's gilding herself too, since admins have that option for free and she has no popular posts. :D

I keep saying redditors need to break off and make their own page. I refuse to be apart of any of that nonsense really.

This article points out something surprised me - Reddit only employs about sixty people. Sixty! All the rest of it is unpaid volunteer labor.

Notice how they keep gilding themselves (which they can do for free), in spite of massive downvoting, and they've been accused of gilding many other unpopular posts supporting their censorship where its very unlikely the community would have, especially since its been such a huge recent surge.

Reddit owns the servers and software which has taken years to get where it is and you're not going to replicate that overnight. Over several weeks or months maybe, but not tomorrow.

OTOH, Reddit's servers and software are filled with volunteer content essentially.

Reddit is trying to make money off of minimal investment and leveraging volunteer content to be more than its investment would otherwise give, but somehow feel those volunteers are obligated to keep providing that content.

It's a PR BS stunt. All fluff talk. She sent it to the media before she posted on reddit. She has no idea what kind of site she is CEO of. No clue.

The funniest part is that one of the biggest things was communication, but Pao couldn't take the time to answer the most upranked questions posed to her, when the petition that has over 150K signatures is directed specifically to HER as an individual.

So her vow of "communication" means that she will talk AT you from time to time, lol! :D

And if she meant that only krispy is the one that will "communicate", she's the cow that people are pissed off at for all the nonsensical shadowbans even of some of the highest karma ranked contributors with many year old accounts and refusal to explain when questioned... and honestly, I hate shadowbans to begin with (IMO bans should regular along with a permanent listed reason that points to the post in question that sparked it for transparency's sake, since otherwise you can end up with some people that just don't like someone or get a God complex with their admin rights instead of just being unemotional and impartial "janitors" which is really all that's desired).

I have this suspicious feeling that Reddit is getting far too uncomfortable as a mean of getting real news out there and is getting the axe on purpose..but that's probably just my tinfoil hat tingeling again.
