Well, different subreddits are certainly close minded. You can post the same thing in two different subs. One place will get heavily up-voted, and one will get heavily down-voted.
For a more balanced discussion, reddit is really not that great of a site.
Go into /r/politics and post anything conservative or non-liberal. Downvotes and attacks left and right. Open minded? Not there. Very rarely have I seen decent discussion between liberal and conservatives. It happens, but it's very rare. Conservatives are dumb, party votes, old, white, racist people. Everyone else is a beautiful unicorn....
Other subs are much different. Some are very open minded and you can come in with an unpopular opinion but still valid, and not get downvoted to oblivion.
