Perfect Heatsink, when?

I am still waiting to see a heat sink with all of the following:

6+ heat pipes
Direct Touch (heat pipes are part of the bottom of the block and are directly touching the cpu)
NON-Pushpin motherboard bracket (I don't consider what came with the Sunbeam adequate)
Dual Fan mount option (120mm on each side for push pull)


Basically what I want is a TRUE with Direct touch.

I thought I would be happy with the Sunbeam, and it does cool nice. But it still leaves me wanting more . Mainly a motherboard bracket that doesn't suck, and an option for a second 120mm fan.

The only reason you can't strap on a second fan for a push-pull config is because the cut of the fins on the rear of the cooler are at an angle. I'm pretty sure Vantec or someone else made an almost identical cooler to the Sunbeam CCF (Core Contact Freezer), but with a flat back. I could be wrong, otherwise someone would've been hootin' and hollerin' about it by now.

Also 6 heatpipes wouldn't fit on a current CPU. Unless you mean smaller heatpipes, which completely defeats the purpose of having more.

There are already heatsinks with 6+ heat pipes. It fit's fine. But maybe not in an direct touch cooler though.

Non pushpin and dual fan you get in Noctua UH12

will be almost impossible to find one with direct touch AND 6 actual pipes
if they did , all 6 wouldnt touch the actual CPU

so its 5 or 6 heatpipes with no direct touch

or 3 or 4 heatpipes with direct touch

If you like the contact freezer but not the mounting style, the Spire Thermax II is a clone, but the AM2 style clips get bolted to the board enstead of push pins.

A good lap will take care of that, but it is very flat.


4 heatpipes, direct touch, dual 120mm fans, and bolt style motherboard bracket. None of this clipping/push pin crap.

Closest so far is the Xigmatek s1284 with crossbow mounting kit (optional, mandatory imo). But still only 1 fan.

How much difference are two fans going to make in a decent case?

I reckon the heatsink out now are perfectly fine, the amount of heat pipes ain't that big a deal as their effectiveness is limited to the size of the cpu or at least the IHS.

I didn't say they were bad or sucked, I am just still waiting for my idea of a "perfect" heatsink.

Amount of heatpipes doesn't nesc. help, but it depends on the size. A lot of these only have 4 6mm heat pipes, while others have 4+ 8mm heat pipes.

2 fans can make a big difference, even with good case cooling. Push-pull on a heatsink gives it better cooling and more static pressure.
